Before anyone gets hype, I recommend reading the article.
> **Medical cannabis** is an “industry of the future” with the potential of creating thousands of jobs in rural areas if properly supported by the Government, a Tory former cabinet minister has said.
> the Tory MP said he is **not “advocating for legalisation of recreational use”**, but simply wants to highlight “the opportunities that flow from the growing and manufacturing of medical cannabis-related products”.
If you want to legally smoke, take a look how things have progressed in Germany next year.
It would create thousands of jobs.
It would open the doors to coffee shops on the “high” street, warehouses, farmers would make a profit.
Why not.
Of course. It could be massive industry. With a whole market for the different strains, blends. Items based around it (bongs etc). Also associated industries (food etc). You could have whole industry catering to the whims. Sort of like the craft beer industry. You could do a LGBTQ one, bacon flavoured. Indie blends etc. A Brexit themed one whatever stuff you wanted. Tax. It regulate it. Decrease the tax burden on alcohol. It could help create a cafe culture. Plus, lets be real. Creating and making international supply chains for a drug industry is sort of Britain’s special skill..
All the jobs lost to AI being replaced by jobs making weed would be dank as hell.
With the number of countries recognizing the use of cannabis for people with certain diseases growing it’s inevitable that we will continue to expand the amount we currently grow. The irony is, it will probably be another decade before our own government recognizes the usefulness.
Of course, Tarquin and Jonty are happy to set it up and dish out the government contracts to themselves/their Old Etonian mates, but god forbid they discuss legalising for recreational use lest they slightly offend 85 year old Tory donors in the Home Counties.
Cannabis is the industry of the future!.. *But the plebs cant enjoy it.*
Never trust a tory they’ll betray you when it matters. They will scramble to the top and then they’ll kick away the ladders. Never trust a tory or a tory in disguise yeah you can see it when you look them in the eyes.
Onsind.
if everyone just smoked some weed i think we as a human race would get on a lot more
It already is a great profit making industry for our MPs. Weird considering their main argument against legalisation is the lack of medicinal value and no system of legalisation to follow.
I guess they lost the contact details for Paraguay, however many US states, Canada, Thailand… The list goes on.
Britains attitude towards cannabis is laughable in your face hypocritical and it’s been proven no amount of petitions or debate will ever make any headway. Let’s not worry about the huge tax income, saved prison space, saved policing spend ect ect. Not like we need it, our economy is booming. I personally just paid 40k to have my swimming pools heater replaced. Oh no wait, that was Rishi Sunak.
I looked in to starting a medical cannabis company last year in the UK, getting the licence to grow, no problem, around £7k, getting permission to set up premises? £1.5-3million in change, getting clearance from your local council to actually set-up shop, almost fucking impossible… No council we went to seems to want that shit in their back yard, which is why the UK industry is entirely run by Tory links – sounds fucked, no?
It’s almost as if the system is rigged…. And I fucking hate to bring up Brexit, but hey, this is why all Tory voters pushed it – Germany is about to fucking crush the Euro market with legal weed, democratically, they will build a thriving market that creates thousands of companies & jobs, all paying tax, boosting the economy by billions. Britain? Nooo, it’ll be a select handful of Tory party donors who make bags of cash mostly exporting their medical weed. They can grow it, sell it, and make money, but fuck any peon who wants to be part of the game.
Capitalism works best when it’s ‘pass-the-parcel’, but Britain isn’t doing that anymore, we’re stagnant, ruled by clowns, and if Brexit is to work we should be opening this shit up, but Chauncey and Rah ain’t interested in the future, are they?
Also Tories: “Best I can do is literally criminalise everything that changes how you feel”
Neuropathy patient checking in. Used every pain medication under NHS with Doctor, Cannabis is by far the most beneficial for me personally as it does not have the side effects of the prescribed meds. Certain Torys have a monopoly on the medical cannabis market currently and legalising it would force them to give up on that monopoly. Add to the fact that cannabis is a market disrupter for the pharmaceutical as you can not patent it and regularly increase prices on top of the Alcohol industry taking a hit in profits.
So It is only market and monopoly forces stopping it being legalised. I was in a desperate pain for years and even asked if having my leg removed would get rid of the pain, that desperation made me try everything and therefore I learned to procure my own and my life is now more enjoyable and liveable as result even though I am mostly confined home due to mobility.
Anyone that has suffered pain for many years would not let a soul on this planet that tell what they can and can not put in their body and this government has Cleary proven that it only has big business and elites in its interests.
I think people are mad trusting the opinion of any government official when it comes to health based on what they doing to the NHS and how they lied about covid.
Profits are simply more valuable than your well being.
Oh it looks like the tory MPs chums have set things up now so they can be the only ones who benefit from this.
Recreational cannabis won’t be legal until an establishment goon is ready to cash in. Once the supply chain is set up following the medical benifits.
In America, they legalised it, and regular folk started local independent dispensing. That won’t happen here. It will come in hard and fast, and there will not be time for regular folk to compete.
Im prescribed medicinal cannabis. It’s a life safer for my ptsd n manic depression. I never get to that “point“. I’ve been in hospital few times for self harming but since taking weed it just hasn’t happene. I have a job/career now without it I would be back on ESA and not fully functional part of society. You can legally vape in public spaces and to be honest I’m at the point of saying if every smell was a legal issue then courts would be backlogged with smelly egg lunch cases* from train journeys. I think it’s high time people kinda get over it. (Pun intended).
Weed is for making money, not for having fun! – says dealers and the gov :/
lol first tech and now cannabis. Sounds like someone is jealous California overtook the uk in GDP a few years ago
Legalise it already.. good god. We live in the stone age here.
At this point I am 100% certain that any Tory MP speaking positively about anything has personal business interests in that industry.
That doesn’t stop them being right but it helps understand their priorities.
It’s not off the table imo, like it’s a popular policy that can make cash, and if the tories need a few points I’m sure it’s discussed.
Canadian here. Weeds fully legal here for a few years now. We can go buy weed of any form for cheaper than when it was illegal but it’s not an industry that’s going to replace everything lol. It’s just another industry and adding it will create more jobs and that’s just common sense
Just back from Canada where they legalised weed. The legal industry represents 40% of the weed industry because when u add employee and premises costs and government taxes, the cost is quite a bit higher than illegal stuff. I know this is about medical marijuana, but I wanted to make the wider point.
The medical route is sorta a way in for low key ‘legalistation’ at the moment the criteria for a private prescription is quite strict but before legalisation in Canada, getting ‘medical’ cannabis was as simple as asking for a medical card and nobody really checked if you had a ‘genuine’ medical need. This route could be a way to ease in legalisation without a short sharp shock to the Conservative boomers who want to prevent you smoking a relatively harmless plant for your own enjoyment.
Needs to be decriminalised asap and medically supported
it’s already making the Tories a fucking shedload. Lets not forget that British Sugar has a monopoly on the growth of medical cannabis in the UK and whose managing director is Paul Kenward, who just so happens to be married to tory MP Victoria Atkins who was so notorious for her voting against any sort of relax of drug laws she “voluntarily” recused herself from policy or decisions relating to cannabis and we are in fact one of the biggest (according to some sources, THE biggest) exporter of medical cannabis. Oh and that Theresa May’s Husband’s company also owns Bayer the distributor for sativex cannabis.
Will they finally do it? Will they accept that they need the tax

Only when it’s making them money though: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Kenward
