>The latest law grants police officers the power to search personal belongings “if there are grounds to suspect” that they may be holding drugs, explosives or stolen goods.
Isn’t this basically probable cause?
When I found out that in the U.S. the police can come in simply if they see fit (something is heard, someone says something, etc.) I was surprised.
Now in Russia it is the same as in the U.S., I guess this is how progress is manifesting itself. Life has become better, life has become more fun!
>Police can also open vehicles to save lives, fight crime and terrorism, as well as ensure safety during situations of mass unrest or emergencies.
“I have reason to believe that you have a criminal inside your home, we didn`t find him, oh but hey we have found [insert illegal substance, weapons, pornography here]. Justification would be a “witness statement”, for example, your neighbor or “paid witness”. Mass falsification is already a problem, but now illegal searches are going to be legal.
>Persons who come into contact with Russian police officers are required to give their full names and provide identity documents when asked, according to the law.
A policeman has priority. So he will ask you for documents and then he can share his name. But if he thinks, you/he/anyone else is in danger, he can skip this part. In case of breaking into your home.
The law was signed by the president. We can all pity Russians, this is not going to be fun. I imagine more imprisonment and corruption. Where police can use this as a revenue source. You want your competitor gone, easy, we will enter his home and plant some evidence.
Looking at the short lives and medical issues of P-opponents they’re probably allowed to do a lot more than that.
And Russians are perfectly fine with it. The few ones which are not usually jump out of windows into their deaths instead of just leaving Russia. True patriots.
My only problem with this what will stops criminals from abusing this?
Putin is starting to fear for his ass eh?
Yeah, but what if you hide (*checks notes*) child pornography and map of Ukraine (in internationally recognized borders) up your ass, how the government is supposed to know that? Do you want them to waste time and obtain a warrant every time they suspect you are up to something? Don’t be silly, it’s for your own good!
