Two trans women and gay man targeted in suspected ‘anti-LGBTQ arson attack’ in East London

  1. This was inevitable. We came incredibly close to three LGBTQ people dying in a fire, in what was probably a targeted attack. This era in British politics will be looked back on in shame. We can only hope that those who spread hateful rhetoric will eventually be held to account.

  2. Just this morning a national newspaper ran with a front page painting trans people as an existential threat to women, but it was nothing special and just another day of the week in this country.
Attacks like this, which appear to be attempted murder, are unsurprising and the result of our media and politicians targeting trans people for their own personal gain.
The message for years has been that trans people are an existential threat to women, girls, and society at large, and it is unsurprising that people like the arsonist in question decide that we’re legitimate targets for violence.

  3. Oh hey would you look at that. Exactly what the communiry have been warning about would be happening is happening again.

Dont worry im sure we wont be told to just be quiet; its all just made up; that the UK isnt an extremely bigoted island pretending to be civilised by the thinnest of veneers.

Oh wait never mind thats exactly what we will be told.

  4. Those overdramatic trans getting all worked up about a little bit of arson. If they hadn’t pushed to be able to live not on fire then none of this would have happened.

  5. The UK newsmedia is guilty of stochastic terrorism.

Oh look. None of the major newsmedia outlets are covering it. What a surprise.

  6. It’s not an arsonist, it’s just someone “asking questions” with fire – Daily Mail headline tomorrow

  7. Can anyone make sense of what happened?

The stairwell of the flats was destroyed

And there was an explosion at the window?

Was the stairwell set on fire? Or was the front door of the flat set on fire? Was something thrown through the window?

  8. We’ve been warning the rest of the LGBT+ community that attacks on trans people are the canary in the coal mine, and here we are. This is only going to get worse when you have national newspapers running front page headlines about “those evil transes”. And once they’ve pushed trans people back in the closet, who do people think the religious far right and fascists are going to go after next? Oh right, gay people.

  9. I wonder if we’re gonna get another round of people going “but are we *sure* it was a hate crime??” for this one

This is exactly what we have been telling people the anti-trans rhetoric would lead to, and people called us hysterical or paranoid. Now it’s here, people need to buck up and own the shit they caused. Not just the media and the people stoking it, but those happy to ignore it because it didnt affect them
