Austria sticking to veto on Schengen expansion, foreign minister says

  1. Well if Bulgaria and Romania had any representation with balls they’d start using their voting powers as well, to show the appreciation for austria’s european solidarity.

  2. Romania should use it’s veto for all the Austrian interests inside EU from now on. Also, the boycott against Austrian (which is actually Russia’s trojan horse in EU together with Hungary) must continue.

  3. They are not “sticking to veto on Schengen expansion” because they didn’t veto Croatia. They are sticking on veto Romania and Bulgaria.

Man these news are stuuupid, disinformation and disingenuous. Yesterday a tweet from a crazy guy was posted on r/europa regarding Schengen.

  4. Every conversation on the topic:

Austrian official: We’re vetoing Romania & Bulgaria’s ascension to Schengen due to security concerns.

RO & BG: You can come over and see things are fine, Netherlands did it and they were fine.

Austrian official: I’m still not convinced. You have a long way to go.

RO & BG: What do you want us to do then? Give us specifics and we’ll try and address them.

Austrian official: It’s not my job to tell you that, you should know what I want.

    RO & BG: *eye twitches*

  5. What a joke of a nation. A gov representing 9 mio people holds the entire EU hostage. They’re essentially just a rich version of Hungary. Same sucking up to Putin under the pretense of neutrality, same corruption at the top…actually I think the Hungarians learned corruption from the Habsburgs. Just kick them out of the EU, then they can try Donaumonarchie 2.0 with their pals to the East.

  6. Unlike Poland and Hungary. Romania and Bulgaria aren’t actively undermining the EU, I really think that the EU in general but Austria specifically in this case should be as accommodating to them as possible.

  7. It’s less about what we have accomplished and more about our PR in Austria (and Europe in general). Unless they stop equating us with swan thieves we’ll never get in Schengen.

  8. Austria maintains border checks with Hungary and Slovenia even if this is contradicting EU rules. Recently they extended for the 17-th time the term for border checking with Slovenia, that is considering to reinstate checking in retaliation for incoming Austria transit. Basically they took means to secure their borders from illegal entries, they only keep Ro and Bg out to prevent Ro Bg and Gr from becoming rich. Orders from Moscow that seek to seed division and prove that EU is dysfunctional and divided. Ro Bg and Gr shall make life harder for corrupt Austria. Avoid buying from them or travelling there as tourist. They are not a friend but an enemy to us.

  9. Austria also seems to stick to the idea of border checks on the Slovene and Hungarian borders….even tho both countries are in the EU. And this has been going on for years now

  10. The Austrian Goverment is quite unpopular.

It will likely change with the next election in 2024! But maybe we get one thats even futher right!🤡

  11. Russian puppet state. Is the EU just going to stand back while Russia is controling this thing?

  12. Journalists: “Why are you stopping Romania and Bulgaria’s ascension to Schengen?”

Austria: “Because we must prevent our neighbors from growing their economies, coerce them into selling us cheap oil, continue deforestating their mountains and having a cheap supply of white workers to serve us……..*

    * cough cough*

“Excuse me, was I thinking aloud?”

  13. Yea deep down we still haven’t shed off that right wing thinking, especially if you look at our current polls.

But I guess that happens when you’re allowed to declare yourself the “first victim” of nazi germany when you actually are the first collaborator (and a very enthusiastic one…)

  14. > Say absolutely nothing until the veto is too close to change anything significant

    > Try to blackmail Romania out of even more natural resources

    > Accept a country in the middle of one of the biggest migrant routes in Europe

    > Complain about migrants

    > Lie about the numbers of migrants coming in from Romania and Bulgaria

    > “We won’t accept Romania and Bulgaria until the migrant numbers go down.”

So basically never, since there will never not be a shortage of migrants coming in.

Just so everyone knows how things work with Austria.
