Future Energy Mix as Envisioned by the German Economics Ministry in 1974

  1. Not quite what happened (⌒_⌒;)

But I wander, why did they plan that much coal and not oil and gas instead ? Neither is a good source of energy, but one is worse.

  2. That was part of the plan of Chancellor Helmut Schmidt’s government to counter the oil crisis:

He said no to coal in the 70ies, because:
    > The combustion of any type of hydrocarbon leads to a dangerous heating of the Earth” — with devastating consequences for the climate.

This is what the future should look like:
    > In the year 2010, we will no longer have oil. Then all cars will run on batteries. To do this, we need nuclear power plants so that we can charge the batteries from the socket.

    In general:
    > “The world needs nuclear energy,” and responsible politicians must not allow themselves to be slowed down by either “environmental idiots” or “courts that ruin everything.”

The quotes are translated from this [1979 Spiegel article](https://www.spiegel.de/politik/kernenergie-der-kanzler-geht-aufs-ganze-a-e8ebb4ad-0002-0001-0000-000040349636).

  3. What a shame that Russian-funded communist “environmentalists” and their useful idiots have strangled nuclear development in western europe for the past 40 years (fun fact: Russia has the world’s highest reserves of both anthracite and lignite).
