“If that nose had been shorter, the whole face of the earth would have changed”
Blaise Pascal (probably)
Un grand homme.
When you leave your functions because your popularity has just fallen below 50%… Looking at you Macron.
The role of president in the fifth republic is a suit made for DeGaulle. It’s not easy to fit into it.
Probably the one who did the most good for France on foreign policy over the past century. More mixed on the internal policies.
4/28/69, so close, so close.
The architect of France’s Fifth Republic.
Cheh
Ah, Charles de Gaulle, what a towering figure in French history! His leadership during World War II, particularly in the French Resistance and his role in liberating Paris, is nothing short of heroic. And let’s not forget his remarkable political career, including his creation of the Fifth Republic and his staunch defense of French independence and sovereignty. A man of such conviction, intelligence, and strength, truly a giant among men. I have the utmost admiration for him.
Merde!
Yet his authoritarian legacy remains through the quasi dictatorial Fifth Republic
I remember Charles de Gaulle when he visited Canada, Quebec… He made many people agree. However, his parade was full of French-descent people.
Pretty much immediately after his resignation, De Gaulle went to Ireland, and more specifically, [Kerry](https://www.irishexaminer.com/news/munster/arid-40078736.html), as Daniel O’Connell was a political inspiration, and it was there he wrote his memoirs.
resigned
So Charles de Go
When de Gaulle came to visit Galatasaray High School in İstanbul, the students were angry because the renovation of the school was financed by cutting school food subsidies.
When he started his speech the students started chanting “İbne de Gaulle”(meaning gay de Gaulle). De Gaulle was confused with the chanting so asked the principle what the students were chanting, and the principle said they were chanting ” Vive de Gaulle”(long live de Gaulle). So de Gaulle turns around and says “İbne Galatasaray”.
Fuck de Gaulle. He refused to let British troops take part in the parade following the liberation of Paris. Xenophobic cunt.
He was also a self-righteous, paranoid, pompous carpet-bagger who made wild claims about his role in WW2 that were blatant lies.
It’s crazy how right he had it about the UK and not letting them into the predecessor to the EU. He 100% called it that the UK couldn’t be trusted and right from the beginning they were problems.
His speech to the german youth was a masterpice and in my opinion one of the most Important speeches of all times. What a great european
