Passenger trains in Bulgaria are like a mini ghetto on wheels that moves around. People here generally avoid them and there are all kinds of shady or weird characters there. So, interpret the situation not as one happening on a modern train like those in western Europe, but rather as one happening in, say, Skid Row or Compton.
She basically started an argument with a random stranger at a prerty unsafe place. I suspect what triggered both the conductor, who made her stay in the back of the train, and the passenger who started shouting at her, was the dog. They were probably expecting it to pee and shit all-over the place, bark all the time, and make a mess in the wagon. Which, btw, is a pretty realistic expectation, given the state of the trains and the fact that many dog-owners are totally irresponsible and they neither properly train their dogs, nor do they care if the animal bothers other people. And when she tried to stand up for herself it was like pulling that stunt to a random thug at a ghetto. And that is also why the 112 operator did nothing.
Do not get me wrong, I am really sorry that happened to her. It should not be happening to anyone. I also think that it is high time that passenger trains are brought to order and the national rail company stops being the mess it is right now. However, the conclusion that we are rabid racists is not a fair one. That experience could have happened to anyone in any shady place in Europe or the US. Unfortunately, passenger trains are such a place here.
I don’t want to be rude, but from only her side of the story it sounds like she had a fair bit of the blame. First of all, idk why they made her stand up, maybe she bought the wrong ticket or maybe she wasn’t allowed to travel with a dog, anyway, if the conductor said that you should probably listen. Also Sofia-Veliko Tarnovo is 4 hours, not 6. Second of all, she said she exited the cabin to deescalate and then after she got spat on, she pepper sprayed him, which is probably what escalated that. Idk if I’m desensitized to crazy idiots, but I feel like common sense is to try to avoid them at all costs and she engaged with his provocations.
Yeah I also have seen that things have gotten worst recently but unfortunately no one on Reddit will admit there’s a problem so idk
Don’t travel between big cities because it seems it’s mainly people from there from my personal observation but that’s just me
