> Poole said the other big area where librarians had received requests for removals was books with LGBTQ+ themes or characters.
Bloody woke mobs, hating free speech… oh wait a minute
Like hate crimes against LGBT+ are going up.
In times of economic struggle, Government and media play the same old hits. Blame minorities and hope the public fall for it.
First the came for YA novels which would get no praise if not for having LGTB themes
Then black history books exploring the life on the one black servant at tudor court who did nothing of importance.
Then they edited classic books which is actually scary comapred to a libary getting complaints.
Honestly, these are just nutter’s harassing librarians rather than some kind of concerted effort to remove certain books. I volunteered in the library for many years and only experienced this when certain people saw a book on the shelves and felt it was not appropriate for children etc.
The way this article is phrase makes it sound like there’s some kind of official movement to remove books that government doesn’t like
A tale as old as time really. People have always found certain texts offensive and tried to get them banned, yet it never lasts long and people move on to find something else to hate. As with anything like this, if you do not like it then ignore it. It takes a lot of energy to get this worked up over a book, energy which could be better put into doing something productive.
Ugh, what a fucking sexy library in the photo there…
Can we compare them to Nazis yet, or we still not allowed?
Why are so many people — both left and right wing, such utter wet wipes nowadays?

Imagine getting so upset because a book contains an offensive word, or has a gay main character. Have they tried just not reading it and keeping their nose out of other people’s business?
Ffs lets not start heading down this route. We should be better than this.
It’s all Fahrenheit 451 stuff irl. The flag shaggers will be the ones driving the most of this of course but I know for a fact that “sensitivity readers” are now a professional thing in the publishing world and authors are getting pressured to write in a voice other than their own so it’s nuanced. The editorial community is in the main very left wing from what I have seen so that explains it but I’m not convinced it’s a good thing. The reader should decide, unless of course it’s blatant bigotry. That being said, TERF Rowling did put Kingsley Shacklebolt and Cho Chang in the Potter books twenty years ago and no one batted an eyelid so maybe I’m wrong on that issue.
