  1. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has rekindled Poland’s old fear of its giant neighbor.

Amid escalating tensions, the Kremlin is now rewriting one of its darkest chapters ― the 1940 massacre of over 22,000 Poles in the Katyn Forest (in Russia’s Smolensk region) by Soviet forces.

This comes 13 years after the Duma (the Russian Parliament) apologized to Poland for that war crime during the early years of World War II.

The Federal Security Service (FSB), the principal security force of Russia and successor agency to the Soviet Union’s KGB, has now released a document attributing this war crime to Nazi Germany and exonerating the USSR.

  2. What a shocker – criminals are refusing to admit to their crimes.

During WW2, when Polish government confronted Soviets where are the missing officers, Stalin lied that they all escaped, „probably to Manchuria”. When mass graves were found by Germans and exhumated by the Red Cross, Soviets were lying that it is probably another crime of Nazi Germany. They proceeded to lie about it all the way until the fall of USSR. Only after Russia embraced their „democracy”, they started to admit that it was in fact USSR crime. But when Putin consolidated his „tsardom”, Russia started to once again denying their crimes.

That’s what Russian modus operandi is – make as much war crimes as possible and pretend you haven’t done it.

  3. No need for a criminal to admit to their crime if an overwhelming amount of evidence already exists.

They can just keep burning bridges, huffing copium and embarrasing themselves.

The civilized world knows and remembers.

    Matsid jäävad matsideks.

  4. Russia rewrite own history. Now they claim that first capital of Kievan Rus was Novgorod in 862-882 years and only in year 882 capital was moved to Kyiv.

The problem is that according to archeologist Novgorod was founded not early year 930.

  5. *Re-rewrites. The Soviet Union originally blamed Nazi Germany for the massacre and accused the Polish government of collaborating with the Nazis for demanding the International Red Cross investigate the matter. They’re just going back to their original headcanon.

  6. Iirc the Soviets executed the people in the Katyn forest with German-made pistols they bought from Germany before the war. This took the nazis by surprise when they discovered all the bodies and conducted autopsies.

  7. I’ve read that the Soviets made the memorial site of Khatyn (in Belarus, near Minsk) that popular to confuse people because it sounds similar to the place where they murdered the Poles.

  8. is this the one which Nazis found while advancing east and then used as propaganda to show how awful the soviets were, with international press being invited?
