Good luck with that, they are still illegally occupying large sections of Georgia to block them from closer ties with the EU and NATO.
Only 129 million for an actual war. Insane.
So, I guess this needs some explaining, because the title might lead to some confusion.
The ECHR does not decide on claims of countries against each other, like those resulting from wars.
This is not the the country Georgia seeking compensation from Russia for the war in 2008. That‘s why the amount is quite low – it does not pertain to the fighting or any other such actions against the country itself.
The European Court of Human Rights watches over Human Rights violations of the member states of the European Council against individuals.
That‘s what happened here. Georgia sued Russia on behalf of Georgian cititzens.
Wonder what would be a fair sum for the entire occupation of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, considering that we were economically on par or even slightly ahead of Finland before, but a dozen times poorer than Finland by the end of the Soviet occupation.
