Spain has banned the ‘dwarf bullfight’. These comedy shows want to entertain the audience during bullfights. Bulls affected by dwarfism chase young bulls without killing them, to make the spectators laugh.

The law passed Thursday prohibits “shows or recreational activities where people with disabilities are used to elicit ridicule or derision from the public.” Spain thus wants to ensure compliance with the EU directives on discrimination against persons with disabilities. “These shows spread the idea that it’s right to make fun of the differences,” said Jesus Martin, chairman of the Royal Disability Committee.

However, many of the artists involved replied that they felt respected and appreciated by the public and protested in front of Parliament. “We are bullfighters, we are artists, enough of bans, we don’t want alms,” the company wrote on its Facebook page.

  1. Tough call . I get that people have the right to be performers, but in a broader context, their small stature is being used for other’s entertainment.

Ps think that it’s the “bullfighters” not “bulls” that are affected by dwarfism.

  2. Let midgets do what they want. It’s Fuked up to take their rights away. This law is very vague and would presumably even ban things like professional wrestling

  3. Sometimes folks don’t think about what they’re doing. It’s like Formula 1 and other motor sports banning “grid girls”. Usually these girls were models for who the events were nice gigs, something to pay your bills. Now their job is gone because of the bans.
