  1. LD50 is an absolute requirement for chemicals testing and even more so for pharmaceutical grade chemicals.

    It’s unfortunate that we’ve to kill mice to get that information but it pretty much forms the basis of what a safe level of exposure is.

    Botox is seen as a frivolous thing used for vanity purposes. It’s a medical product with medical uses.

  2. Pharmaceutical guy here. Botox is so amazingly potent that it can really be tested using normal techniques. Animals are used to test dilutions of botulinum toxin and this give an ‘activity rating’ in units rather than in nanograms. Most Botox is used in cosmetic procedures, which means most of this testing is pointless. The medical uses are non-trivial so that use seems reasonable.

  3. Another scandal – Ireland has the highest percentage of people who were originally born in Ireland. Or any other almost exclusively Irish thing…
