  1. “Meagher’s victim, “John” (32), spoke to the Sunday Independent but asked for his real name not to be used because of the sensitive nature of the case. John has faced a backlash from some members of the community where he lives in Kilkenny for making a garda complaint against Meagher because of his standing in hurling.”

Honestly this is fucking awful. I know people involved in the GAA have a ridiculously elevated position in Ireland for some reason, but this sort of stuff is not uncommon and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read in court reports about people being “involved in the community and the local GAA club” getting off.

If it’s really that important maybe they should be held to higher standards?

  2. What an absolutely chancer. Imagine people siding against the victim. All because what? He was a name in the GAA? He should have got longer in prison. 41K is a life changing amount of money in the context of a deposit for a house and can take years to save up.

    > “I find it difficult to drive in my locality or head to the local shop as I constantly fear who I may meet, who might know my story, and who might judge,” he said.

I fucking hate the GAA so fucking much.

  4. At least it sounds like he’s going to get the majority of the money back. Blizzare that anyone would take the coaches side for such a blatant scam.

  5. Jesus, you’d be sickened reading that. Sure it’s always the pillar of the community…GAA strikes again. Hope yer man gets his money back.

  6. The VICTIM has faced backlash for reporting a pile of fucking garbage that stole 40k from him…
Words cant describe how much I hate GAA Culture.
