  1. > [The Mother] Abubakar was taken to hospital where it became apparent she was mentally unwell.

    > She is currently detained in hospital for treatment for paranoid schizophrenia and attending her trial by videolink.

    > Mr Heywood told the court: “The prosecution case is that Ms Abubakar consciously and deliberately neglected Taiwo by failing to provide him with food and water, causing him to join her in fasting as a religious act.

    > “Ms Abubakar is a deeply religious Pentecostal Christian, for whom fasting is a tenet of her faith.

  2. Poor kid. Covid certainly did a number on a lot of people’s mental health and surely triggered problems. Which of course, in a lockdown situation, wouldn’t have been noticed as it was “normal” then not to see people.

I know a lady who had her first child in lockdown, she had a really rough time of the birth, but had to do it all on her own – her partner wasn’t allowed in hospital – and then when they got home, they just had to manage alone, no family coming round to help, no mum and baby classes, no health visitor checking they were doing OK. She struggled and she is mentally healthy, for those not so healthy it must have been awful.
