They did, that’s why you are paying €3.50 on top of it.

  2. This has been a thing for two and a half years now. Surely by now you’d know not to order from a UK site that refuses to do the VAT paperwork.

  3. Common sense should get people to order similar items within the EU, or you know, just expect that they get this when ordering outside the EU.

  4. This has been the case for years. Want to know the secret to dodging customs fees? Don’t buy shit from outside the EU.

  5. I also hate this. Before the vat relief meant you could purchase low cost items (under €22 if I remember correcttly) without paying the import vat.

Ive ordered stuff from China since this change and they are supposed to declare the correct VAT as they now add that to the price we pay however when it comes to Ireland it’s like flicking a coin to see if the item will arrive or will one of those ransom leaflets arrive instead.

    I feel your pain.

Queue the people who will now tell me to shop local and get ripped off from buying the same item for double the price..

As for buying from the UK, if it’s not from amazon I just don’t bother, not worth the risk unfortunately

  6. Bought something from the US a few years ago for €1800.
    I was charged €560 duty.
The salt in the wound was the €60 that I had to pay a PRIVATE ASSESSING COMPANY to tell me what I owed.
Why isn’t that done by An Post??
