I just moved in a new flat that has an air ventilation system installed in the wall. It makes a vacuum sort of noise but seems to me slighly odd (a bit louder than white noise for reference). Is it normal that the ventilation is on all time, or can the flow be regulated by the maintenance company ?
Kiitos!

That’s the NBI surveillance system. You or the maintaince company shouldn’t touch it
Either you have separate unit somewhere in your house and it should have controls to turn it down, could also be in kitchen over your stove, or youll have to call maintenance
Could be a electric panel on a wall or a know above your stove
The ones on the walls bring fresh air in. In many cases you can not turn it completely Off
You should change the filters or ask someone to do it because dirty filters can make the AC unit run hotter and take more power which also generates more noise than with clean filters.
I had that same system and it was on 4/5 for 6 months before i noticed. That wasnt cheap.
Is there another vent somewhere? Usually it’s a round one. If so, you can twist and detach that vent and scrape the dust from the inside.
These vents gather dust in them and it begins to make a whizzing sound.
Something that looks like [this.](https://imgur.com/a/gCzrB4W)
Would be great if they had these in the bathrooms which you could turn on when needed….
HVACS systems in Finland lack filtration layers to make the air cleaner, it’s amazing how much debris and dust accumulates in a matter of hours after cleaning or vacuuming. I love these eco friendly air vents but would be genius if there’s any filters for sale or system already available? 🙄🙄🙄
You shouldn’t stop it ever. Better for you is to call the housing company to check if the airflow is correct, they have special devices to measure it and also they must have the apartment pipe plans to see the correct amount of air coming through every ventil. If you stop it, since you have both incoming and outgoing ventilated air, there’s big chances for mold to appear since the outgoing side is not working anymore. It is the same if you lower the machine’s speed. Also you can tell them that the noise is bothering you, maybe they are not correctly set.
