Isnt it rather funny that the majority of established well regarded feminist insitutions and bodies all accept and include trans people yet we’re told daily that trans people existing is somehow a threat to women?
Good on the Womans Insitute for shutting down the transphobes attacking them.
Edit: To quote from the article
“since the 70s and made official in 2015 – which allows transgender members”
So since the 70s this long standing feminist body in the UK has allowed for trans people yet I thought according to the bigots its a new phenomenon and as its new who ever could know what disastrous consequences could occur by accepting trans people and letting them live like everyone else.

it’s one petition over a policy they’ve had for 50 years
what is very funny is that the petition is signed by…a bunch of men
bonus points: googling many of the names of the completely organic comments of “I was going to join my local WI but now I wont!” gives you – you guessed it – twitter accounts devoted to nothing but spreading transphobic hate
Gender Critical activists are a hate group nothing more. They have been at this for over 40 years. Lobbying the absolutely shit out of anything and everything making trans people’s lives total hell.
If they give that much of a shit about women’s rights and safety why aren’t they lobbying against lone male taxi drivers picking up lone drunk women. John Worboys raped over 100 women in his licensed cab, didn’t hear a peep out of these people about it. Trans woman wants to use the toilet or join a club these people scream Hail Mary. It has never been about women, it’s about there mere principle of rejecting trans people as even existing. These activists have received legal backing by the same organisation that overturned abortion rights in the US. No actual feminist would ever jumped into bed with the American Evangelical Right. These people do.
Of course they will.
Because this is is how the WI describe themselves:
> [Today, we are the largest women’s organisation in the UK and we pride ourselves on being a trusted place for **all women** of all generations, to share experiences and learn from each other.](https://www.thewi.org.uk/about-us)
If they announced that they stand for all women apart from black women, we’d recognise that they’re racist.
If they announced that they stand for all women apart from gay women, we’d recognise that they’re homophobic.
If they announced that they stand for all women apart from trans women, we really should be able to call that out as transphobic rather than pretending that there’s some sort of “trans exclusionary” flavour of feminism which should be seen as anything other than hatred towards a group of marginalised women.
This is really nice. As long as you’re not hurting anyone, you do you!
Honestly many older gen trans women often come out late or never got to be themselves socially. I can imagine the joy some would have being themselves for the first time and support other women could give them through WI activities and events. Banning them would be just be mean
