Romanian researchers call on academic publishers to remove Elena Ceaușescu’s name from “her” fraudulent scientific papers and books. They also ask that her honorary titles be revoked by UK’s Royal Society of Chemistry, the University of Westminster, and other institutions that granted them.

4. Every few years a town in Austria or Germany will realize that they still have Hitler registered as honorary citizen. Getting rid of these things apparently takes a long, long time.

8. Elena’s actual school scores were kept a state secret; when they were declassified after 1989, it turned out that doctor Ceaușescu’s last school scores, finished at age 10, recorded her highest score as 7 out of 10, for needling and sewing. For reading and writing, she received 4.

   General Ion Pacepa, who fled Romania in 1978 and exposed the Ceaușescus’ crimes, recalled that whenever doctor Elena had to read something, she moved her lips and touched the words on the page with her finger, as she slowly muttered them to herself.

   When Pacepa’s DIA gave her the codename “Athena”, the doctor was furious at being called “antena”; when an officer dared start to explain that “it came from Greek…”, she was still angry at being named after the Greek capital. Ceaușescu himself cut the argument and quietly told the officers to change his wife’s codename to “Academician”.

9. Elena, Nicolaes biggest mistake. I wonder how things would have been different without her. People like Nicolae Ceausescu but hate her, she was also one of those in charge of Timisoara protests while Nicolae was in Iran.

   Nicolaes downfall can be attributed to trusting people too much which is odd when its usually paranoia that consumes a dictator, also more odd when he correctly judged the USSR and the USA.
