Extinction Rebellion stages ‘slow cycle’ in Dublin city calling for action on biodiversity loss

  1. I’m marginally supportive of some of their opinions.. but then I talk to a supporter and they are fucking insane. Half of what the propose is not actionable and their opinion on that can extend to “Well then human life isn’t actionable” lol

  2. A group trying to promote the protection of biodiversity. Let the online berating begin. Reddit Ireland is amazing. Essentially a place with the biggest moaners on the planet but will absolutely slate any sort of protest.

  3. So, their plan is to gain support by pissing off everyone that they want to support them, while ignoring all the companies, TD’s and government institutions that could do something about it?

  4. I get why these groups exist, as well as Green Parties across the globe but the reality is that climate change and global warming is a conversation the vast majority of people in the world are not ready to have.

I’m incredibly supportive of environmental policies but putting an extra cycle lane on a road is rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. What is needed to stop catastrophe for our species is the abolition of capitalism, a cultural shift towards vegetarianism/veganism and megacities allowing rural nature to go back to its natural state, the embracing of automation for 99% of our production needs and the subsequent basic income for all to sustain themselves, the abolition of nation states as we know them and a turn to a one world government that can align and act in a cohesive manner.

These are hard questions. And they’re questions people are not ready to think about. Saving our planet means that our very way of life would be turned upside down.
