Doesn’t help when papers like the Guardian spread anti trans hate ideology.
Who isn’t estranged from at least one relative?
The UK is still pretty socially conservative in many areas, especially amongst the older generation. While the media has to take some of the blame, it is an issue that goes beyond that, the media may have only made it worse. The fact is that religion or religion’s influence on people’s morals is still a big issue in the UK and this directly impacts how people view LGBT people.

For all the idiots in other threads saying ‘ItS iMpOrTaNT tHaT TeAchErS tELl PaReNts aBoUt sOMetHiNg so ImPorTANt’ this is exactly why the mandatory telling parents shit is a terrible policy that will unecessarily put children in harms way.
Probably get downvoted for this.
I do question why they are estranged format least one family member. I’m a B myself, and estranged from a lot of my family but it has nothing to do with my sexuality and everything to do with the abusive household I grew up in that has resolved in huge fractures with my siblings, mother, father, grandparents, and a lack of contact with extended family member due to me seeking comfort in being isolated. Due to being abused, and that’s what.abuser do isolate individuals from any form of support network. So it’s something I know do to myself. All to say you can be estranged from family member without it being related to your sexuality.
Additionally where it says int he report a number of people are afraid to come out to their parents, I wonder how many know their parents won’t care but are saying they themselves are afraid to come out. It’s not an easy thing to just do. I mother loves going to drag shows, friends with drag queens, friends with a transgender couple, in the early 2000s my GP transitioned and my mother didn’t care and explained why (as I put it at the time) why was that man wearing girl cloths, with a simple he likes to wear girl cloths and would like to become a girl. And I understood it perfectly well. All to really emphasize the point of she really wouldn’t care I’m bi, however I’m still scared and filled with anxiety to even think about telling her.
Obviously that’s not the situation for everyone, however I do wonder howuch the numbers are bumped up due to factors that in reality have nothing to do with your sexuality. And everything to do with your personality.
