Question about the heater thing you find in rentals. What is stopping people from cheating the system? If I understand how these things work correctly. It’d be possible to place it in a cold area to cheat heating cost? Hope this question isn’t again guild lines! 😬

1. They will break if you try to remove it.

2. Those things are welded (or sometimes screwed) to the radiator and sealed. The next time a meter reader comes he will notice the broken seal and you’d have a lot to explain – and pay the maximum possible reading for this radiator.

   Newer ones are read remotely via radio, and send an alarm when tempered with.

3. I am pretty sure they have software, that shows all the outliers. 😉

4. Also while you might save money by tempering with it,
   The amount you dont pay will be paid by your neigbouhrs.

   these things are used to calculate the share of the heating Bill of each flat. So the landlord wont pay a die in any case.
