    > South African authorities are asking Russian President Vladimir Putin not to come to the BRICS summit to be held in South Africa this summer. The reason is an arrest warrant for the Russian president issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) on charges of war crimes in Ukraine. This was reported by the South African newspaper Sunday Times, citing sources.
    >
    > South Africa is among the countries that are signatories to the Rome Statute, which obliges it to comply with the decisions of the ICC.
    >
    > “We have no option not to arrest Putin. If he comes here, we have to arrest him,” a South African government official told the newspaper.
    >
    > According to the Sunday Times, last week, South African President Cyril Ramaposa appointed a special government committee, headed by the country’s Vice President, to examine the authorities’ options in connection with an arrest warrant against Vladimir Putin.
    >
    > According to the interlocutor of the newspaper, the committee will find no other options except for Putin’s participation in the summit via video link from Moscow.
    >
    > Unnamed senior officials have confirmed to the newspaper that Pretoria is in talks with Moscow about this.
    >
    > In late March, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that there was no decision yet on the Russian president’s participation in the Durban summit.
    >
    > South Africa has close ties with Moscow. The Kremlin once supported the ANC’s struggle against the apartheid regime.
    >
    > After the Russian invasion of Ukraine last February, South Africa did not publicly condemn Moscow’s actions, saying that it wished to remain neutral and preferred dialogue to end the armed conflict.
    >
    > The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin after accusations against the Kremlin of illegally deporting Ukrainian children.

  2. Let’s see whether the SA population will stand up for what is right and protest against someone who is trying to subjugate the Ukrainian people.

An invitation would put SA in a position to do in one bold move something that no country in the world has been able to do so far.

  3. South Africa is waking up to the dangerous games it’s playing. Russia the pariah state cannot support its own economy let alone support external economies. South Africa needs to decide. Support the rabies riddled Putin and loose all international financial aid or stand up for what is morally and legally right and bring the rabies riddled dog to justice.

  4. I’m still hoping for the timeline where he is arrested in South Africa and Ruzzian heads explode in realizing they are powerless to an African nation
