There’s a strong air of entitlement from each article about this with bizarre excuses. Feeling sick, travelling 48 hours from Australia is not an excuse. It’s a foot race. The point is to make it to the end entirely on foot under your own steam. It’s not about getting to the end by any means necessary, tick a box and make a podium finish.
“The race didn’t go to plan. She said she was feeling sick and tired on the race and wanted to drop out”
Funny way of dropping out.
secretly using a vehicle for part of the race would require planning in advance. she’s a lot more culpable than she would like us to think.
it makes me wonder if she’s done it before and gotten away with it.

Fitting name.
Don’t need to, if I take the car, Wayne.
Her mistake was driving a 2 1/2 door, 3 wheel Reliant Robin. Should have used a less-noticeable vehicle.

Guess the “I was carpooling to work” excuse didnt work then
Cracking headline, gave me a jolly good laugh. I needed that
Even if you take her excuse for face value she in no way should have accepted the third place trophy or any result at all.
“No, I took a car from this point to this point”
But nope, took the trophy and got the pictures. She’s dishonest, and should get some kind of ban as a lesson in humility. Plus they had to investigate themselves to see what she did, at no point did she tell any officials.
That’s if you take her excuse at face value, rather than if she intentionally cheated…
Who else was competing? Dick Dastardly and Terry-Thomas?
Holy shit, turns out I’m also an elite ultrarunner. Who knew?
When you drop out of a race (but want to continue), common sense would say you pocket your numbers (keeping them to show if asked).
But she didn’t, it feels like a shotgun of excuses and “sorry” for being caught.
The worst bit is she came 3rd so she denied someone a podium finish, if it was 4th or lower it’d still be bad but more forgivable.
‘Should I not have done that? The rules weren’t clear’
Holy shit we are going old school cheating on this one.
She’s taking a lot of flak so I’m going to stand up for her. The thing about cheating is that if you get away with it, props to you. At least she gave it a go! It’s kind of hilarious the outrage that this rather trivial misdemeanor has caused in what is let’s face it a pretty trivial middle class sport.
I’d believe her I’d it wasn’t for the whole getting trophies and photos thing. Getting to the end and telling the truth fine whatever. You still did most of it but didn’t feel great so got in a car for a bit. But the whole posing for photos part makes me think she willingly cheated to gain an advantage
Surely it puts a question mark over nay of her previous race wins? Shouldn’t they go further and strip her from any medals/trophies?
Has any official corrorborated her story about saying she was dropping out?
Doesn’t stand up if she accepts the trophy at the finish line without saying something! And then to keep it for a week. You take it off and give it back then – or within minutes! Bit like the oscars mistake – correct it asap!
>A friend said Dr Zakrzewski had felt sick and was sorry for any upset.
We all feel sick, it’s a bloody shame. Bad Doctor Z.
This is the best headline I’ve read today – amazing.
It’s nice to know I can class myself as an ultra runner, I’ve traveled thousands of miles by car.
Wait wait wait, how do you cheat and travel by car and only come 3rd????
It was spotted because she kept beeping the horn when she crossed the finish line
She said that she felt sick and fatigued ect to the point of being delirious but continued running to the finish line?… OK

What does she think this is – [the 1904 Summer Olympics](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athletics_at_the_1904_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_men%27s_marathon)?
