211 motorists detected speeding on ‘Slow Down’ day – RTE

  1. Only 0.15% of all people checked were speeding, a big reduction on last year, seems like a positive trend to me.

Speeding has always been used as the reason for accidents but distracted driving rarely gets a mention these days.

  2. Speeding laws are a joke in Ireland. Overhaul is needed. Why is it the same punishment for being 10km/h over on an urban area and a motorway. One should result in a larger fine and a ban. The other a smaller fine.

  3. This is the first I heard of a Slow Down day.

Where is it advertised? Do the cops do much else except man speed cameras?

  4. With all the modern tech in cars these days I cannot for the life of me figure out how a device hasn’t been invented that monitors the legal speed limit and then restricts the cars to that limit.

You drive into a 60kmh zone, the car car detects this and doesn’t go above 60kmh.

Would it be that hard to do?
