On this day in 1945 – the Reichstag Fell

  1. I miss the days when people compared my abilities as a graphic designer to those of a doctor.

Now I’m just a computer monkey with a bunch of asses watching me all day.

  2. I believe the second watch is actually a wrist-worn compass, but that isn’t well known or obvious, so they removed it just in case to avoid suggesting looting.

  3. There are many reasons to carry two watches. The Soviet command, in my opinion, used Moscow time because it made sense in a vast field with shifting coordination.

Let’s say you want the air force and ground forces to coordinate. You could do a lot of conversions, telling each group the local time (and hoping it doesn’t change as they advance or cross borders), or you could tell everyone the Moscow time and instruct them to maintain Moscow time.

  4. My great-grandfather served in WWII and received numerous honors. When I was a child, he frequently told me wartime tales (usually when my grandfather asked him to do so). Looting was something that they frequently did. Although they were somewhat pleased to feed people who were fascist, they were stealing food supplies from the locals. They weren’t particularly heroic or brave.
