Stop and search orders should cover over-12s, murdered girl’s mum says

  1. They already abuse the powers they have and havent fixed underlying issues or have proper accountability so instead of making kids seem like crime bosses and wanting to feel them up while not investigating most crimes how about an actual system that just fund the police to have more presence so people dont feel unsafe and see to crimes so people dont feel like they can get away with anything…

  2. Having no opinion on this I know this would unlock a s**t storm hell knowing current S&S topic is making some people “very nervous”.

  3. On one hand, stop and search has mixed evidence that it’s that effective

On the other, I can’t help but feel a little stop and search in an effort to reduce mindless knife killings is a small price I’m willing to pay

On my other other hand, I really don’t want to give police and the government more and more tools to just enter into my private life whenever they want.

  4. It’s a fairly reasonable proposal in theory.

Unfortunately, when put into practice, these proposals generally quickly become highly targeted and disproportionate to certain demographics, according to what news articles, etc, I’ve seen.

Not to mention, the ongoing issues with police abusing their powers, and generally acting unlawfully or worse themselves.

It would be nice to say something like this would be effective, and non-discriminatory, but historical evidence tends to suggest otherwise.

I totally understand the call, and as a stopgap, I can see the benefits, but the culture needs to change to the point where carrying weapons is no longer seen as the done thing to either look tough, or for self defence…

  5. Interesting how the media portray this girl. Now, I’m not saying she deserved to die but her and her friends had just stolen a bottle of vodka from Tesco, were drunk and she particularly was being aggressive. This wasn’t a random attack. She was drunk and was trying to fight other people.
