Plenty of valid and honestly pretty easy criticisms to throw at the met but this just looks like someone wanting to blame them for the sake of having someone to blame. Also strange timing given the crime and sentencing were years ago.
It’s a really bad article but it sounds like they had a history for going missing or off-grid? That would be de-prioritised anywhere, unfortunately.
>The Met referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) over Jan’s case, but the IOPC let the Met investigate itself.
If the IOPC didn’t particularly care there’s almost definitely nothing there either, they’d be licking their lips at that.
>It found senior officers had not supervised the investigation as thoroughly as they could have done. “All missing person cases are now subject to senior oversight,” it said.
Honestly don’t see how they can do that case-by-case in the real world. Rough translation to me = an inspector just signs everything and hopes for the best from their staff.
Horrible for the family either way but feels totally pointless.
