So we’re actually supposed to keep those. Always thought it was general laziness we didn’t remove them when they new one arrived.
We won’t always have them the system will change eventually, In the future this will be cool to show someone
Including the sun damaged glue that will never re-adhere? I’d say you’re as close to car info display perfection as is possible.
I wouldn’t recommend upsetting the feng shui / chi in your car with any removals.
Straight to jail for minimum 10 years
Do you actually need to keep the old ones in the window? I can’t find anything that states you do, just that the current disk must be displayed. I take out the old tax and NCT ones every so often and I only ever have the current insurance one in there.
3 points on your license
My grandfather, may he rest in peace, brought them from car to car. When he finally gave up driving at 88 he had over 40 insurance discs and hundreds of tax discs(he’d only tax 3 months at a time).
Having just moved back to Ireland, and noticing that everything is online and digital, I’m a bit surprised that we still have to stick stuff on our windows.
Yeah funny how some people including myself just put the new disc on top of the expired one untill the holder either splits or just can’t ho lol d any more. Retired a car recently and the owners manual sachel had all the disc from day one to day it retired 1997 to 2017…
It appears the discs are preventing the windscreen are falling in.
I believe the new cameras the guards are using can pick that up from over a km away..
The whole idea of keeping the old ones is to have them act as plausible evidence of forgoterry when you are stopped by a Garda when you have no valid tax or insurance.
The reason I’ve always heard for this is the one day you get caught for not having your car taxed because you missed the date or forgot, you might get a bit of leniency if the Garda sees a dozen or more discs in the car showing it wasn’t the norm.
Purely anecdotal, borderline superstitious shite that almost definitely makes no difference if you’re caught with no tax, but I still do it myself… just in case.
Go for it, you will be amazed at how the weight distribution of your car will have changed and it now understeers less, it’s worth at least a carbon dash trim of handling. /s
Only started this year to remove them, don’t know what part of my dna made me collect them 😆
That would be like removing the rings from a tree trunk.
I keep them for a different reason than others have mentioned. When buying a car, I like to see that it has had continuous tax, showing it hasn’t been off the road for a continued period, and makes it less likely to be owned by a criminal. I also like to see that it was taxed for full 12 month periods at a time, meaning the owner wasn’t a cheapskate who was likely to also cut costs on maintenance. I keep them in case other buyers are like me. Same goes for NCTs
I think it’s the fact we spend hundreds of euro on them, hard to throw them away when you’ve spent the shillings like that for a piece of paper.
Wouldn’t chance it! If they though you were not taxed in 2003 they will put you in with the murders in jail.
Oh, so your one of these liberals that wants to erase the history of the country? Pretty sure I can see some of the book of Kells near the back there.
