I’m shaking in disbelief and anger… This kind of thing never happened in Serbia before (one dude attempted something a couple of years back and got beaten up by the PE teacher IIRC). The poor kids…
Be careful also with the numbers though. The Serbian tabloids are having a wild ride of speculations, sensation- and anger-fueling.
To add some context, this is a state school ofc (like 99% of kids in Serbia go to state schools), but one considered to be a “snobbish” one. Located very centrally in Belgrade’s Vračar neighborhood, many rich people have kids in this school, many famous people.
Parent of a kid that goes to this school said this on twitter (quick google translate):
“Ribnikar is a school that has security on both sides of the building and in both shifts. My child goes to that school, he just wasn’t on that shift, thank God. Everyone is wondering how this could have happened:
At the parents’ meeting, the name of the one who causes a problem must not be mentioned. Bad students must not be kicked out of school. Parents are prohibited from contacting students if there is a problem. So all normal reaction mechanisms are blocked and then people wonder how this happened.
Otherwise, children in primary school learn the way I learned at university, they are so overloaded. Every day 8 hours at school, and then at least another 5 hours of homework and studying at home. The competitive spirit between children taken to the level of absurdity. No camaraderie, just who has what grades and what kind of sneakers he wears.
In school, there is a lot of invisible and visible violence against the weaker ones. And no one can react, neither the parents, nor the school. Ridiculous laws and regulations have immobilized society. It was only a matter of time before some weak character tried to solve something like this. Cowardly, without an ounce of brains.
That’s when the school and parents schedule what happens. Just rewrite the laws and tie your hands”
edit: Police has now officially confirmed that 8 kids and a security guard have been killed. Another 6 kids and a teacher are in the ER. The perpetrator, initials K. K, born 2009, has been arrested.
This is not the element other countries should be embracing from American culture
He who gets bombed by the US, becomes them 🙂 .
That kid shot gun before. There is no way he can use a gun and kill so many people without a training.Person who trained him should go to jail two.
Terrible news.
I’m so angry that this kind of shit now happens in Europe, as well.
Out first official school shooting ever. I still can’t believe it.
I think it’s long overdue for Serbian government to start regulating what movies and tv shows can be aired at what time.
Some shows shouldn’t be on TV at all, let alone at prime time and when children are still awake.
Criminals, murderers and other mafiosi parading at Zadruga and similar trash contribute to congestion of Serbian society, especially children.
But I guess that change needs to start from the top. Maybe not directly but this also is Vucic’s fault.
Rest in piece to all the victims and may their families find comfort eventually.

Apparently he was bullied and a “straight A” kid and got an F in history class which is when he started shooting. [source in Serbian](https://www.b92.net/info/vesti/index.php?yyyy=2023&mm=05&dd=03&nav_category=16&nav_id=2327131)
I wrote A and F because it’s a common term. In Serbia we use numbers from 1-5 where 1 is equal to F and 5 is equal to an A.
