ANSA says that Antwerp’s port was the main one they used to import cocaine from South America. Kinda sad that the operation didn’t involve the Netherlands but still that’s a lot of people arrested!
Mafia is the general word for organised crime, ndrangheta is the Calabrian mafia as cosa nostra for example is the Sicilian mafia.
A guy from the Aquino family was arrested for the umpteenth time in relation to this. And in a city 10 minutes away from me here in Belgium. A few years ago his brother was shot dead in his car by apparently hired assassins not very far from us. Never expected maffia crime families to be so close to me, I thought I left crime and drugs behind me when I moved from a city near the centre of the country to a rural town in peaceful Limburg.
A few years ago 2 streets removed from me an asparagus farmer was also raided by police and arrested. He had 500 marihuana plants and an xtc lab on his property.
Apparently this province which looks so peaceful is a hotbed of maffia and other international crime organization activity. It’s just not as in plain sight as it was in the city.
