I’ve become so used to the trees I forgot how it looked with out them. Get rid of the trees …. oh and the fucking junkies and other scummers
Looks pretty! She’s standing around about where the Spire is now.
There used to be public toilets on O’Connell St too. Not that you would ever go in there!!
What a depressing glow down since.
What the fuck did they do to it?
Looks better now
Where did it all go wrong?
Such poor taste in post-war architecture . Look at those horrible railings she is leaning against and those awful stones around the perimeter of flowers. The only appealing thing is the flowers
Imagine flowers on O’Connell Street now…how long would it last ?
I thought this was a joke at first. What happened to the flowers?
My mom still has that haircut. Sort of.
It looks better now, less traffic. But still huge improvements needed.
An absolute shit hole now
Before the apaches took control
She has that fashionista grip
Is that the footprint of Nelson’s Pillar?
Can’t have nice flower arrangements because…. Scumbags.
When I was on holiday in Europe, I came across a public park where they had peacocks roaming around free…. The peacocks were just hopping around the park, day after day, unmolested by anyone.
In Dublin, those peacocks would have been dead within a day…. Murdered by our resident scumbags.
Dont be fooled by the perspective, the whole of O’Connell St was essentially a car park. Im old enough to remember it as a kid like this, it was chaotic for pedestrians and the pollution was something else you used to choke on the fumes and smog.
That is the Perm of Perms. It is the Seal Team 6 of perms. The winds from an atomic blast would not move it.
Getting an ‘American on vaction in Ir-Er-Land’ vibe from her..
Drugs have fucking ruined so many cities. I always look back at that stat of Irelands prisons in the 60s almost having to shut down because of how little crime there was. Larry Dunne and those other cunts have a lot to answer for
That looks amazing! I wonder if crime was worse back then in comparison to today. I rarely feel safe around Dublin nowadays.
Now replace 60% of that pic with craic heads
Ah, look at the little baby spire behind her. They grow up so fast!
Needs more cultural diversity.
Enoch Burke hanging out on the right of the picture
I remember O’Connell Street in the late 60 and early 70s, much nicer then than today. Those toilets were underground and are still there I think. I remember visiting several times with my father and he commenting on how clean they were.
I wasn’t in Dublin between ’72 and ’88, could not believe how much the place had gone downhill in those few years.
i cant stop noticing the monster nipple on the dude on the left
Flowers really do add lovely colour to the street
That lady is pure glamour and charisma!
Why can’t we have nice things any more?
Why have they let the street go to muck, and give it over to the feral?
Beautiful 👌🏽
It makes me sad how much of a shit hole it has become, I dont even like walking over there these days.
It’s literally just flowers
I don’t know why I’m so surprised to see a woman in 1960s Dublin wearing trousers.
There was an underground jacks near there in the 80’s / 90’s and probably earlier than that, I can still remember the stink of. I shudder to think of the pile tin foil and needles that would be there now . They’d be fishing bodies out of it on an hourly basis.
Sad to think everyone in this photo is dead.
Is it one of those “before revolution in Iran” kind of pictures? My god, what kind of revolution happened in O’Connell street that led to its current state?
State of it now.
When Dublin(and Ireland) had “ambience”.
it actually looks like a place conducive to civil social behaviour
Those flower gardens would be destroyed today.
Between the shit and rubbish on the streets, loads of lights not working and no effort to make things look nice you’d wonder what the fuck DCC do?
Thing looked interesting and had character back then looking a older pictures, before we started to Europeanising Irelands architecture and building boring slabs of “ minimalist” buildings with the worst example been the spire.
This is pretty cool.
Those trees along the middle used to be the roost for THOUSANDS of wagtails, internationally renowned, right up until the moment they chopped them down. This is why we can’t have nice things.

Looks better to be honest
