Why criminal barristers could be on the verge of unprecedented industrial action

  1. €25 a day me bollox. They get €25 per client and more if there are multiple charges/summonses. The good ones will have numerous clients up on any given day and this is 5 days a week.

For the majority of minor criminal cases solicitors do little or no work. Chat to their client for 5 minutes before the case is heard and then reel off a list of excuses to the judge as to why it’s not their clients fault that they grew up to be scumbags.

If legal aid fees are increased I would like to see new legislation brought in for people convicted of a crime to be ordered to pay the court costs in order to recoup the money like they have in the UK.
