  1. They didn’t catch them in the act (despite all the security and police who would have been in the area), there was no evidence on which to investigate (despite all the cameras that abound), Johnson wasn’t there anyway (hence the scope of the inquiry), Johnson didn’t know about it (he claims), and so nothing will be done.

Remember, laws do not apply to the elites. Know your place!

  2. I hate the version of Britain I am forced to live through just now.

It’s a fucking embarrassment and at times a frankly frightening era.

  3. Stratton crocodile tears – she wasn’t sorry about the party – she was sorry she was caught … she should name names if she’s serious about the country’s forgiveness..

  4. I am Scottish, like many i believe in self determination, why do you think a lot of us bang on about Westminster and now have been banging on about Westminster for nearly a decade, we do not think they are to blame for everything, we are not trying to shift all our problems onto Westminster. We didn’t sit around for 2 years painting our faces blue, eating shortbread and talking about “FREEEDOM!!”, it was a long and extensive debate, it was also an information sharing excercise, so our union and its establishment were put under a microscope. This is how our establishment works, it has never been about us, it doesn’t matter if you are English, Scottish, Welsh or from Northern Ireland, its not about you. its the monarchs govt, it sits in a palace and has a whole wing dedicated to the power of Lords(you know those things that are a throwback to fuedal structures), we have no codified constitution, you aren’t allowed to know what is prescribed or proscribed when it comes to the government and its powers, we have a lord as a leader of the opposition, we had a past PM(Cameron) who, including himself had 5 relatives of the queen in his cabinet. The next PM’s father knew a lot of paedophiles and when she came to a position of power “lost” files of evidence of high profile child molestors, then her dept accidentially wiped the testimonies of 600 witnesses to said high profile child sex abusers, just a pity that people like myself get crucified for wanting to create a system for ourselves that in no way resembles what we are forced to endure now. I would like to live in a modern democracy, that doesn’t have members of a church with more say over Scotlands future than the whole of Scotgov combined. Place is a fucking joke. BTW I am not here to discuss indy good or bad, just pointing out that this is how it is and how it will continue to be i will do my debating at the ballot box thank you.

edit, now considering i am getting lots of replies saying walls of text, paragraphs, some important information, i have been up all night nursing a sick pet and found out an uncle died last night, i have more important things to consider and worry about than passive aggressive pedantic redditors, get ower yersels

  5. I’m no legal expert, but wouldn’t this give precedent that the law cannot be enforced and of those 70k people … possible look to quash their fine/refund it? I wonder if its something the GoodLaw Project can look at.

  6. Imagine being thick enough (or rich enough) to continue supporting the Conservative party. “Rules for thee but not for me”.

Do their non-wealthy voters really have NO self respect at all?

  7. The Government has appointed a senior civil servant – rumoured to have been at the party himself – to investigate the party. The Met Police will not take any action, and any journalists or “lobby sources” who may have also been at this party are keeping their heads down in case they incriminate themselves and burn all their bridges with those in power.

It’s the establishment closing ranks, and it stinks.

  8. Fxxxxxx disgrace MP supposed to set an example should be ashamed of themselves and that’s all parties, and the cops should investigate 1 rule them another for us

  9. They cant possibly do anything about it because the Met Police and intelligence service would have to admit that they were also at fault, I believe they have all the CCTV, logbooks, first person accounts, probably even the minutes of the party, thats their job, they spend so much money and man power protecting these assholes, they let it happen, and no one in the intelligence service or the met chose to whistleblow, and continue not to spill the beans.

  10. I don’t know why anyone is surprised. With the Dominic Cummings thing, they all but literally said, “Yeeeeahhhh, but those are the rules for *you*. We don’t have to follow them.”

  11. We need a revolt and riots but for legal and ethical reasons i am not one to start it. No MI5/reddit, i am not saying let’s start a revolt. but we sorta need one bc this is bullshit

  12. God, I’m so sick of feeling constant deep shame for the people that are meant to be leading me…

  13. MIL trying to tell me yesterday that “there are far more serious things going on in the world.”

I really don’t want to be talking about this but he is forcing me to. Our government needs to be held to the highest standard as they are an example to the whole country and represent us on the world stage.

If they can’t get the small stuff right, how can we trust them with the big stuff? When they lie about the small stuff, then I have to ask what else they are lying about.

  14. The prime rule of Conservatives: protected by a legal system without needing to abide by it, while everyone else has to abide by the system without being protected by it.

  15. And the next day, Boris has the brass neck to announce new restrictions for us plebs to follow. They think we’re mugs.

  16. I just read that 3 people (at least) received a fine of £1000 for attending parties that happened the same day. The police are claiming that there is insufficient evidence of something despite it happening in a property in which they, themselves, record the comings and goings of every single person.

    It’s so absolutely disgusting.

  17. It’s insane. Imagine if it was Labour caught with that video joking about a party. Boris would be on tv within the hour denouncing their behaviour as vile and the investigation would start day 1.

It’s disgusting. They have no shame and no morals.

  18. It’s all well and good getting outraged here, but its kind of a bubble.

I don’t think it’s unfair to say this sub has a majority opinion of “Fuck Boris”. Most commentators here, including myself, wouldn’t vote for him anyway.

But what about Margaret and Tony down the road? Who always vote Conservative? What are they thinking? What’s the comments in their bubble?

Because those are the voters you want to swing. Not us, who would never vote Tory anyway, sleaze or Xmas party or not.

  19. That’s like saying they won’t investigate a murder because there’s no evidence a murder took place. Regardless of a dead body.

Did they forget the whole point of investigations in the first place

  20. We allow the Tory party to use and abuse us, the Tory party regard the British people as absolute bunch of easily manipulated eejits.

Every single Tory MP , is and has been perfectly comfortable with the people of the UK continually being lied to.

We know this because not one of them , on any occasion stood up at any point and said I will not go along with these lies ?

John Major squeaked a little outrage , then scuttled off, but no serving Tory MP has been honest and ever decided to serve the British public and speak out.

They know full well they can continue to exactly what they want without any consequences, because we have yet to a single thing to stop them.

  21. I still think this is here to stop them been drug tested and to move away from the drugs found on Parliaments surfaces.

  22. The met claim there is no evidence.

Given that every person visiting number ten , is registered arriving and leaving, as well as security footage.

The caterers and drinks will have been paid for, that will be in the accounts.

The met is notoriously shite, but even the met cannot claim the evidence is hard find.

  23. Get ready for your police state UK people, while boris and co enjoy a “non social distanced cheese and wine, secret bash”. I’m serious.

  24. There’s a scene in HBO’s Chernobyl series where they ask the miners to tunnel under the reactor to install shielding for the containment building. Above and beyond the call of duty, they’re committing suicide. What’s interesting is they’re just coal miners, how educated can they be? Well when they first go into the site they ask the minister “This protective gear, does it work?”. Because while the miners can’t test the science, they can test their leaders and the experts. And the minister admits, no. it doesn’t.

“I know it doesn’t, because if it did work, you would be wearing it too”.

so that’s fiction, but I can’t help but think along the same lines here when I’m watching members of our ruling class ignore their own mandates. They give speeches on TV with an uncovered face, debate in the commons without masks, have parties, ignore social distancing and otherwise conduct themselves as if there’s no global health crisis requiring these measures.

They’re human just like me. They can contract the virus just like me. So the same measures should protect them like they would me. Why aren’t they acting like they believe what they’re telling us?

  25. I moved here over 15 years ago from Poland and every year that goes by the fuckery the politicians get up to gets more and more familiar to what I experienced back home. If they keep getting away with things it will only get worse sadly and that’s quite frightening in all honesty.

  26. Yeah, but its not all bad news.

Apparently the cops won’t investigate because it happened over 6 months ago. On the face of it thats shit because these fucks are getting away with partying while people die but, silver lining, that guy you fucking hate, now you can take an axe to him, steal his money, poop on his dog, call his mum a c**t and all you need to do is bugger off on holiday for 6 months and when you get back you’re in the clear. …Job done. …Lovely jubbly.

Pretty sure thats the message the Met are sending….

  27. “The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command”

  28. All the police have to do is ask the people concerned whether there was a party. Whichever staff member answers will have to think of the ramifications of lying to the police to protect their bosses.

With the level of loyalty shown by Johnson and his gang towards their colleagues and underlings, it would be wise for any person being questioned to spill everything straight away.

  29. Police said they wouldn’t investigate because of a lack of evidence. Surely the point of an investigation is to find evidence.
