  1. > Sofiia Samoliuk, a 13-year-old singer from Ukraine and winner of the 2021 Black Sea Games music contest, has refused to perform on the same stage with a Russian performer during the Sanremo Junior Festival, which took place in Italy on 3 May.
    >
    > Sofiia’s press officer said the festival’s organisers only announced that Russian artists would be taking part in the competition several hours before it was set to begin.
    >
    > Instead of performing her song, Sofiia Samoliuk gave a speech in which she said it was unacceptable for representatives of the aggressor country to perform at an international level.
    >
    > “I will not perform on the same stage as Russian terrorists who are killing Ukrainian children. I hope that next year the terrorist state will not be performing on this stage. Please support Ukraine,” Sofiia said on stage.

  2. Very good. Regardless of age, people should not be allowed to represent the Russian state as long as the Russian state exists in its current genocidal format.
Let’s not forget, Russian culture is just another arm of the Russian genocidal state that it actively pursues and uses in order to whitewash itself.

  3. That’s not right.

Why does the organizer not inform the Ukrainian singer that there will be a Russian singer performing at this event?

  4. Awaiting a million comments blaming the girl for not doing “right”.

Anyway, she has much more principles than many older people have. And more than absolute most of russians will ever have.

  5. Racism.

She said she will not perform with russian terrorists on stage.

Did that person take part in the war?

What are this persons political views? Has explicit support of the war been expressed?

Nope. The issue is that he she is a russian performer.

There is no sugar coating racism.
Its completely absurd that we are allowing racism towards nationality in this day an age. And dont say but the war etc etc. You absolutely CANNOT group a war/putin supporter, ukraine hater with an average person who is just trying to get by and the only thing they are guilty of is having a dictator in power of their country.

  6. I mean I support ukraine and hate putin and his government but I don’t like blaming the whole thing on every single russian I know russian people who want the war to stop and blaming everyone including them isn’t fair imo

  7. All here blaming the organizers for not excluding Russia should probably take a fckng sec and check out who the organizer actually is before starting to blabber random bs.

The organizer of the Sanremo Junior Music festival is UNICEF, not the EU nor Italy, and fortunately UNICEF doesn’t exclude children based on nationality and politics.

Otherwise half the worlds children should’ve been excluded from such events for one or another reason and UNICEF would eventually have no reason to exist.

  8. Bro comments are filled with balant discrimination, some people really need to understand governments and people are sperated things, especially for authorotian states. This is like accusing/blaming a [random nationality] citizen for all the stuff that [random president] did.

  9. To be honest, despite the bullshit that I write in this thread, this whole situation is an example of, at the very least, a bad taste.

Ukrainian kid is in its right to protest this. UNICEF could demand an official anti-war statement from the Russian kid representative, or something like that.

  10. I think a better thing to do would be defy the narrative and sing a song together to show their respective govs that the people will stand in solidarity together. They are children after all, are they supposed to fight too?

This whole hate the whole of Russia thing is weird. Don’t you think they have people who oppose the war and want peace etc? I’ll bet there’s people in eastern Russia that have no clue what is going on but are they bad too?

Most world organisations are western led like FIFA etc. imagine of they weren’t and whoever ran it opposed our war in Iraq and said stuff like no American French German British etc fans/players/performers allowed? How would we feel? Can’t help but feel as though some people want to hate other people…

  11. The Russian federation should be dissolved and the remaining states put under western militar occupation. We should encourage the modernization of the country and make their society a XXIst century one. It worked for Germany last century, and we now are better prepared technologically in order to organise this. We just need the Russians to collaborate in their own sake.

  12. This comment section is exactly how Putin describes the west, so many people bigoted towards Russia. I expected better as someone who is pro Ukraine.

  13. I’m fucking tired of this tribal as fuck mindset of “he’s Russian he can’t play with us” because Russia currently is invading Ukraine, if the kid or the parents made statements in support of Russia i would understand but this is just stupid.

We should act like FIDE did in this chess world championship, it eliminated Karjakin because he supported the invasion and als FIDE didn’t show the Russian flag to represent Russian players but it still allowed Russian players (Nepo being the obvious example) to partecipate.

We shouldn’t punish people just because they’re Russian, we should punish them if they support the invasion which is a big difference.
