So this man already hit his wife last year and he **still** has not had his gun(s) taken away from him. The one step the authorities could take to protect his victim and they don’t do it. We learned nothing from Bernice Cassar’s horrendous murder.
Actually no, what we learned is this country, the police, and the judiciary will do everything they can to not send abusers to prison. They don’t give a shit if a woman is battered, bruised and bloody.
I know of too many women still suffering years after having escaped their matrimonial home. Their husbands still live more comfortably than them whilst the women need to make every cent count. Then there are the lawyers…and the court.
It’s the job of a defence lawyer to try and get the client off the hook. It’s not reprehensible for a defence lawyer to ask that the client be given a suspended sentence.
On another note, its good to see these things finally being called out. Ten years ago, it would have been ignored.
In two weeks time: he kills her
Magistrate and police involved in the case: *shocked pikachu*
There is no gun obviously. This is not the USA. His main crime is extreme stupidity but in view of the general failure of the police to protect very clear aggression against women, an example will be made.
Let’s not forget that the biggest crime against women was perpetuated by the same government still in power. And none of the women in politics took a stance. Helena Dalli and Nuxella made no secret of their delight at the murder and it did not impact Helena Dalli’s cushy appointment in Brussels.
And none of the women in the nationalist party took a stand either.
This is not an just an issue of gender based violence. The malaise lies much deeper.
