Recently, I saw this road sign on the streets of the old town in Lublin, Poland. Does anyone know what it means? Or is it just a local joke

  1. The sign is above the stone, which according to local legend, was used for executions and touching it brings bad luck. It is a joke.

  6. Nowy „znak drogowy”, a na nim kat z toporem, pojawił się na Starym Mieście w Lublinie. Informuje on o… kamieniu nieszczęścia, który podobno przyniosły tam dwa diabły ze Sławinka.
    Na znak natkniemy się skrzyżowaniu ul. Jezuickiej z ulicą prezydenta Teodora Gruella. Trójkątny znak ostrzegawczy zwraca uwagę na znajdujący się pod nim szeroki kamień. Związana jest z nim ciekawa legenda. Ponoć na Stare Miasto przydźwigały go dwa diabły ze Sławinka, a sam kamień od zawsze sprowadzał na ludzi nieszczęście i kłopoty. W XV wieku służył jako podstawa katowskiego pniaka przy ulicy Bernardyńskiej do czasu aż ścięto na nim niewinnego młodego człowieka, a w kamieniu do dziś pozostała szczerba.
