  1. If we did this in Kernow, Brown willy would become Brunn Wennili and Bodmin moor would be Goen Bren. 🙂

I quite like it tbh, has a nice ring to it.

  2. It will always be known as “Fucking Brecon” by every service man and women who has to train there.

  3. telegraph went for “reporting” this (I use reporting in its loosest possible way, as some sort of wokerti climate change thing. 🙂

  4. A rose by any other name would smell as sweet …

The location does not care about the name the humans call it. Just treat the location and its locals with consideration.

  5. Why are people in uproar about this? It’s in Wales, seems only right it should be in Welsh. People will still remember it as Brecon Beacons but there’s nothing wrong with trying to change it

  6. I don’t see a problem with Wales wanting to further their national culture. There are some English places that I can’t pronounce like the locals, but we’ll all get by.

  7. The amount of people being weird about this is depressing. Why can’t everyone just respect Welsh culture and our language?

  8. Personally I really like the Welsh language, and afterall it is the descendant of the old British language before the angles and Saxons took over

Just to be honest will need a few goes at pronouncing that

Also it still weird to refer to Wales as Wales, which just means foreigners.. rather than Cymru

  9. >As part of the rebrand, the authority is ditching a picture of a burning beacon from its logo, arguing that the fiery, carbon-emitting symbol no longer fits with its ethos on fighting climate change.

    Jesus Christ.

  10. I’m a little confused by the pushback this is getting in this thread. Surely attempts to preserve and promote the Welsh language are a good thing? I am English, and ignorant to their domestic affairs, but I have heard that their language in the past has been suppressed – so surely this is a positive?

  11. It’s about time, particularly glad they’ve acknowledged the name has connotations with climate change.

I for one was continuously burning wood based off the assumption it was okay given Brecon was named for the Beacons.

  12. There’s a LOTR beacons are lit joke in here somewhere but I just can’t figure it out…

  13. If you have lived in Wales your whole life and can’t pronounce several phonetic syllables in Welsh then you’re a lazy cunt.
