Ah yes. There were no deaths at the Grand National before the protests start. It must be their fault.
So the people protesting in an attempt to stop an event that has a history of killing horses are to blame for the event killing horses?
Fuck off
*Even if* you accept that to be true, the point is that their actions are aimed at preventing many, many more horse deaths in future. It’s the same analogy with the strikes – short-term sacrifice for long-term improvement.
And who is to blame for the previous horses that died before during the event, or the 50 others that have died so far this year.
> “It’s probably someone else’s fault that this horse died,” said the person who put the horse into a situation where it might be injured and then put the horse to death when it was injured. “Can we blame the wokerati?”
Next up: Are climate change protestors causing the polar ice caps to melt? Here’s 10 distraction and deflection technique’s that will leave you thinking that they are!
Tell me the rich write the BBC’s headlines without telling me the rich write the BBC’s headlines….
That’s some real mental gymnastics there. What a tosser.

Absolute bullshit. This headline is number one bullshit.
So the horse died because the horse & the jockey couldn’t gather their thoughts prior to the race? Lmao
Can’t wait to see the analysis come back from The British Horseracing Authority with “Protesters clearly spooked the horse to death”.
Number of horses deaths without a race is still 0. Not sure their logic works here.

It’s the jumps that kill horses in racing. If they remove the jumps from the course, they can still race.
Ah right, because had the horse not been raced & just watched it from the side it would have keeled over and died regardless.
I’m not exactly an animal rights advocate but what a fucking load of bollocks. Talk about distract and deflect.
I just don’t get why we can’t move away from this. Is it just “durrr tRaDiTiOn!!”??
Why not have teams building robot horses to race? Like a cross between the red bull race and robot wars. That would be way more fun.
Or just have people racing and bet on that? At least they can consent.
I don’t get why we need to race actual animals.
Banning horse racing won’t happen, so banning jumps might be the only thing to do
Its an antiquated and frankly pointless exhibition to most people, not sure if the damage to animals is worth it.
Bollocks; its not like its uncommon for horses to die as a consequence of the Grand National or horse racing in general. Two other horses died during the event this year.
The fact is we cant fix up horses legs like we can ours or other 4 legged friends because of the weight and size, so injuries are often the end of the animal and we push these animals to race in conditions where these injuries can and do happen.
If you are racing a horse its acknowledged that horse may die. From there we are just rationalizing how many deaths are okay with us for the sake of entertainment.
the horse falling at the first fence is nothing to do with things being delayed. What a moronic argument.
The problem with these sorts of people that “understand” horses is that as soon as they get a proper injury they just get shot. Horses generally will recover from most injurys, you just have to be willing to spend the time and money on their recovery. unfortunately the people that “understand” horses don’t do this. It is just a business for them and horses are commodities.
Makes about as much sense as “it was her fault for coming home late – that’s why I had to hit her!”. Was the 3rd horse to die at the event. Seems more like an event that’s not very safe. If this was any other sport where 3 participants died there’d be an investigation! Look at how deaths have been eliminated from F1. They made the course safer + later also halo cockpits. You can’t do the latter, but you can do the former!
Kind of like people who say vegan protesters are being cruel to the animals in the slaughter houses because the protesters are making noise that ‘distresses’ the animals. Yeah how dare those protesters make noise to protest the horrible way that those animals are treated. And obviously the people who make comments on those protesters being ‘cruel’ care so much about the feelings of the animals about to have their throats cut or put into a gas chamber.
Journalism keeps getting worse and worse in this country. Is no one able to hold these “professionals” to account?
I’m not a fan of horse racing for this reason. I don’t agree with the protesters just storming the race though, a peaceful protest outside is probably the right way to deal with it.
That said, the horse deaths clearly had nothing to do with them. Utter bollocks
If it wasn’t the protesters, it would have been trans people.
BBC showing their agenda with such a loaded title. If they want to get away with being a right wing mouthpiece they actually need to try to be more subtle about it. ‘Both sides’ my arse, let’s just print one sides opinion with no counterpoint whenever it suits us.
pretty funny. the guy is so dumb he really thought it’d be a good look to give this interview
The fuck sort of stupid headline is that? I know the BBC is government news but come on.
If people genuinely cared about their horses, they would take every single opportunity to ensure they were involving regulatory bodies with proper oversight to ensure the horses are safe and well looked after.
But they don’t care, and they’re appalled by the fact that keeping their horses safe might cost them time and money. Just the absolute worst kinds of people who shouldn’t be allowed near any animal. Abusing animals to facilitate mass gambling is a cruelty that should be eradicated.
What a staggering lack of self-awareness on display here.
I always felt if you bet on a horse race and your chosen horse dies you should have to break your little finger. Races would get safer for horses very quickly.
Oh, fuck off, BBC. Between this and the likes of Laura Kuenesberg pretending (badly) to be neutral i’m never paying the licence again.
Horse racing makes me so angry. Especially the Grand National, which is set up to mimic hunting conditions. It’s a frivolous pastime which is cruelty to horses in order to run a competitive simulation of cruelty to foxes.
The trainers claim to love these horses but are also willing to put them through the stress of racing, causing heart attacks and broken legs, which is an immediate bullet to the head.
The worst one was two horses being led into the parade ring, *before the race*, at Newbury twelve years ago. Both electrocuted because some careless arsehole left an exposed electrical cable in their path.
None of the rich people involved in horse racing gives a shit about the welfare of the horses.
No attempt to save the horse though.
Straight to the gun and an insurance payout.
So, so many injuries are not fatal, even broken legs. Career ending, yes but it is 2023 and the ability to treat such injuries in horses have progressed massively.
All about the money.
Kind of like a hostage taker killing a hostage and blaming everyone else for it.
So, it’s not running a course where the fences are too high for such a large number of horses, and consequently the loose horses end up colliding with the others? This to make profit. No, it’s the fault of the protesters who were rounded up before the race began? What about the horse deaths in all of the years when there were no protesters? Ridiculous.
The BBC just… continues to surprise me.
What a load of BS this article is. Just a colossal pile of shit.
Is there a sensible UK news source out there?
Sandy Thompson:
> …maybe a shorter run to the first fence and a few less horses. They are obvious things that may be considered.
So they know how to make things better for the animals, but they won’t do anything until public opinion swings against them.
Ah, to have the moral high ground!
Absolutely unhinged response. Absurd. These people are nuts.
Issue:
Horses have fragile legs, and don’t heal well, making a break a life-ending event.
Solution:
Race something that doesn’t. Like, idk, a bike or something. We have those. They exist. As a bonus, they also aren’t sentient and don’t need to be shot if you break them (that just breaks them more). I’m sure someone can invent a bike with a hydraulic system that allows it to do hurdles.
Besides, watching people do [this](https://youtu.be/8mRyCxpumOY) is faaaar more entertaining. Humans can consent to the sheer madness you need in order to attempt that. Horses can’t.
Because horses don’t die at the National when there’s no protesters?
Because the horses aren’t already really stressed out?
What a complete pile of bollocks this is
Out of interest, exactly how many horses would have died if they had succeeded in their aims and stopped the race?
I’m no expert, but it’s hard to die in a race you never take part in 🤔
