If you thought we had freedom of speech in Ireland…..
All seems a bit silly. I’ve never really felt the arguments of the media are hugely consistent in this sphere.
It’s an absolute defence to an action for defamation that the contents of what you’re publishing are true. There are protections for things that aren’t true but you reasonably believe to be true as well.
So why would a media organ want to publish something that doesn’t meet the above standards?
