  1. >“The department recruits staff through the Public Appointments Service (PAS),” it said. “Where a candidate is being considered for a role, PAS carry out final eligibility and pre-employment checks including garda vetting before assigning the candidate to a government department.”

That’s on the Public Appointments Service (PAS) not DSP(Department of Social Protection)

    > After the Sunday Independent sent a direct email to Ellis’s work address the department responded to say direct approaches to staff by journalists were “inappropriate” and all press queries should be directed to its press office.

damn right that’s inappropriate and the indo should know better..

  2. Was surprised by the headline. Usually stories along these lines related to politicians and their families doing sketchy shit rather than a random lawyer. Usually lawyers are smart enough to not be breaking laws and jeopardizing their careers for some kind of illicit financial perks.

Clicked link… yep – that’s the craic alright. FF TD family in financial fraud non-shocker.

Curious that it’s like an anti-editorialised title, as it lacks the words “daughter of former Fianna Fáil TD” that the article has, but that may just be from the article title changing since publishing.

  3. Honestly I’m kind of shock by those saying that there’s nothing to see here. She was suspended by the High Court from acting as solicitor for a six figure deficit in her clients’ accounts, mostly elderly at that. There’s a huge amount of missing money still unaccounted for and so yes I’d say it’s of manifest interest who PAS hires. Civil servants are bound not to act in a way that is unethical or illegal.

We’re not talking about a parking ticket here. There’s potential fraud on a massive scale. And the civil service does not require a criminal conviction not to hire someone who acts unethically. Being struck off by the High Court should be enough.

Nobody has a god given right to be hired by the State.
