You can claim impartiality all you want but who funds your operations creates a bias, whether you are aware of it or not. This is the same standard we apply to everyone so why does he have this glaring blind spot when it comes to his own funding?

Eh, I was starting to like the Ditch as they did some interesting work exposing the government before, but their handling of the Collins affair was abysmal and ended any regard I had for them. They claimed he’d voted to sell land to his wife and it turned out that he was just present when the committee recommended the land be out for sale on the open market, without any vote taking place. The decision to sell the land was then made by the council in 2008 when Collins was no longer a councillor. He certainly should have recused himself from the committee meeting to avoid even the image of malfeasance, but it’s a far cry from the corruption that the Ditch story made it out to be.
I have zero time for the government parties but this subreddit took the Ditch’s words as gospel and insisted anyone who rejected their narrative was a government shill. I’m far more worried about the ability of a website funded by a dodgy rich guy to make such an impact on Ireland’s political narrative than the fools in FF or FG who are too incompetent to be dangerous.
Bowes was a shareholder in the Ditch until February 2023 and was always a Russian shill, even though Cosgrave denied he ever was. Shorthall owed €50,000 in rent and Cosgrave is just a scumbag. I know the Ditch insist Cosgrave has no influence but they really need to release how much of their funding is provided by Cosgrave. I know people keep claiming it doesn’t matter who the financiers are but if there was a website dedicated to attacking SF funded by a vulture fund, none of us would take its claims too seriously. And rightly so.
I think the Ditch is great and I’m delighted it exists.
Do I believe it’s impartial? No.
I don’t believe any of the other media in Ireland is impartial either.
Is Paddy Cosgrave a twat? I don’t really know much about him but he seems to be a twat.
Do I wish they held all the political parties to the same standards? Absolutely. If they don’t hold the left wing parties to the same standards, that’s disappointing.
It really becomes a problem if/when those left wing parties take power in the country.
That’s who we want most held to account, those that hold the reins of power. So I’m very happy that they are able to achieve far more in exposing corruption with a fraction of the resources of the mainstream media.
I would consider subscribing if funding was an issue for them.
Very, very disappointed in Michael Martin and his remarks regarding this issue.

The ditch exposed the fuckery going on in An bord planala. Ive no doubt there is alot more going on in there. The powers that be have circeled the wagons and managed to contain the fall out.
And this isnt deep throat woodward and beirnstein levels of skullduggery. All they did was dig into planning permissions and freely available info.
You have to ask why none of the other media outlets havent dug into it considering all the resources they have. Would they have ever bothered?
I doubt it.
This country has decades of corruption involving planning, zoning and other property shite, including iirc at least 2 or 3 tribunals.
As for bias, they freely admit they are left leaning.
Martins outburst tells me that alot of the backbenchers are getting worried that these guys and others are going to start digging around their property dealings. Obviously shouting up the chain of command to Martin to try and stop it. Thats what Martin is worried about.
And he should be, if there is any party where the words property and scandal appear together its FF. People on here have short memories.
Also the current gov policies particularly around housing, which they are pursuing despite evidence showing they are failing, means they and there members open to scrutiny.
Its fair game.
Instead of attacking a media outlet maybe they should but their energy into helping a whole generation of people locked out of home ownership as a result of their failed policies. But they wont because the policies are working as they intended.
