I wouldn’t be a fan of the monarchy but I feel Charles really does love trolling the DUP.

  1. Just picture the DUP screaming in agony, stabbing their ears with drum sticks to make the sounds stop as their Sovereign speaks the words they’ve been desperate to silence.

  2. I’m a gaeilgeoir and staunch anti-monarchist, but I’m actually not opposed to this.

If we want the Irish language to thrive, it cannot be ‘owned’ by any one group. It is not nationalist or unionist, it is neutral. Yes, it has a political history, but it doesn’t have to be political forever. I want Irish to be spoken by people of all backgrounds on this island, and even by people not from here.

  3. I see this decision is getting a bit of stick, which is a little disappointing.

I could be wrong, but I think it is intended as an olive branch to Irish people living in Northern Ireland.

A mark of respect towards Irish culture and a rejection of the anti-Irish bigotry that typifies the DUP and hardline Unionism.

I’m pretty far from being a fan of the Royal Family, but I don’t believe they should be criticised for attempting to be inclusive and respectful.

  4. Somewhere, there is an angry letter demanding that if part of the ceremony is in Irish, then another part should be in Ulster-Scots. I would like to see that letter.

  5. Charles, son of Elizabeth Regina, is now technically the head of state and sovereign ruler of the UK.

They are living under Chuck E.R. Law

  6. First book ever printed in Irish was commissioned by Queen Elizabeth I.

Religious works aimed at converting the Irish. She also had a primer for speaking Irish as she wanted to greet visiting nobles in their native tongue, before switching to Latin or English

  7. Lads, Michelle O’Neill is going, the first Minister of the Nothern Ireland Assembly for what that’s worth… It’s a brave move on her part, and this is a reciprocation I suppose.

As for the coronation itself, what a bizzare and shameless display of all that hyper-elistist Royalist shite.

  8. Irish or Scottish Gae!ic – or both? Both are very similar. I presume Welsh will be used as well – especially as ex-Prince of Wales…

  9. This actually seems like a great gesture although it does imply 6 counties are staying as is. Guess it’s progress

  10. Are people here actually happy he’s using the Irish language? WTF? Forgive my language, but this jug-eared, half-witted cunt who not only talks to plants, but is also the Colonel-in-Chief of the Parachute Regiment, who shot 14 innocent Irish people, slandered them after they died, then honoured the head of the Parachute Regiment Derek Wilford (still living to this day) with an MBE the same year a bullshit tribunal on false evidence exonerated the soldiers and blamed the victims for their own deaths. This imbecile, this cretin, this moron, shouldn’t be allowed within a hundred miles of the Irish language.

  11. Just to show reciprocity of good will, I’ll be swearing at them in English.

    “CUNTS!” I’ll say.

  12. You have to hand it to him. I genuinely think Charles cares about peace up north and has made every effort to show respect to Ireland as a nation. He’s been to more counties than most of us 😂

  13. On the face of it it might look like “aww, that’s nice” but ultimately it’s an indicator that the UK includes somewhere where Irish is the language and as far as I’m concerned they can feck right off with that notion. Ultimately I see this as a mark of ownership, not inclusion.

  14. We made it lads, Gaeilge will be new langua franca

Once the housing crisis is sorted, I’ll be starting a new Roman Empire by the local chipper if anyone’s interested

  15. As an Irish speaker I’ve no problem with this. It’s just a language. Anybody who wants to speak can.

Sure doesn’t the Irish President speak English during his inauguration.
