What do you think?: Is Luxembourg really one of the most dangerous countries in Europe?

Yes, rising crime (even if only petty crimes) is bad news but to go as far as to say that Lux is the most dangerous place in Europe is a bit exagerated. Right now, you have countries within Europe that are at war (with horrifying crimes against civilians) and countries where extremely powerful drug gangs go as far as thresten royals.

ADR used to be idiots but lately they seem to drift into the far-right corner

  2. It’s ridiculous and seems like a pure bullshit campaign of the ADR to proliferate itself as though on crime and blame all the other for being to lenient in the vague hope of establishing itself as a competitor to the CSV in the right.

  3. Well, considering it comes out of Fred Keup’s mouth who anyway thinks that everybody is out to get him, it is to nobody’s suprise that he says shit like this.

  4. Calling the ADR far-right is as far fetched as calling Luxembourg one of the most dangerous countries. I think no one can deny that the past 5 years have not been a boon for the country. Rising inequality and relative poverty will likely only increase crime going forward.

  5. “Is Luxembourg really one of the most dangerous countries in Europe?”

One can appreciate how the article has absolutely no numbered or factual comparisons with any other country to answer this question.

  6. These sweeping statements are definitely just for headlines, although it is true that so much crime goes unreported in Luxembourg and the whole « Luxembourg is one of the safest countries in the world » statement is a dangerous myth.

  7. anyone who lives here knows that Lux is a safe country, even with crime on the rise. I feel much safer here than I would in say UK or France or Germany!

  8. This sounds really exaggerated… Maybe it’s true crime is rising, but Luxembourg it’s definitely not one of the most dangerous country in Europe…

  9. If you think Luxembourg is one of the most dangerous countries in Europe you either never left Luxembourg or you are living in cave… Absolutely fcking not…

  10. Has the journalist ever been to Paris, Marseille, Brussels or even Berlin? 😅 Not even mentioning Ukraine now…

  11. Populists saying whatever bullshit that gets people scared. Can’t get more classic than this.

  12. I find it quite revealing how clearly most of the commentators in this forum as well as the writer of that article do not seem to have actually LISTENED to Keup’s talk about the issue.
It is now on youtube, if anyone is interested.

Because if they had, they would know that what Keup was referring to is not, as it is portrayed here, his OPINION, but statistics created by EUROSTAT and STATEC, which clearly show that crime in Luxembourg has risen dramatically.

Here are a couple examples, for those too lazy to listen to the talk or to occupied to label everything as propaganda because someone they don’t like said it:

Population: around 50% up in the last 20 years, from 436.000 to 640.000 inhabitans

    In the same time:

Overall crimes against persons: 400% up
    Violence against persons: 300% up
    Robberies (from 2020-2021) : 20% up

According to EUROSTAT, of 35 countries in Europe analyzed:

Luxembourg was nr. 5 in robberies, with only Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Sweden being worse.
Luxembourg has twice as many robberies than Germany or France and even thrice as many as Austria.

EU average is 40.8 robberies per 100k inhabitants, Luxembourg has 75.4.

Luxembourg is nr. 4 in burglaries and theft, with only Sweden, Denmark and Finnland worse.

EU average is 878, with Luxembourg having 1478.

Now you can think of Keup what you want, and I guess we can all agree that he is not the brightest bulb in the house, but to categorically reject everything he or anyone else from his party says, just because its “them”, will not help the country or help solve the problem.

We all know the saying: step number one of solving a problem is accepting there is a problem. Right now, most people here don’t want to accept that their safe little haven has a crime problem.

Also, the MP’s answer was very telling: instead of saying that Luxembourg IS a safe country or always WILL BE a safe country she said: “It is STILL a safe country.”

    Still…but for how long?
