On Luxembourg’s streets: Is begging becoming more of an issue around the Gare?

  1. The interesting part is that begging is close to becoming illegal but in terms of drug dealing and prostitution business is still booming.

  2. It’s shocking how the City basically ignores what’s happening around Gare. Deals in Rue de Strasbourg happen night and day in the exact same spots. The amount of needles, litter, piss smell, cigarette butts found in the morning is disgusting. Junkies breaking in people’s buildings is becoming frequent and there’s reports of apartments in the area being given to dealers by social housing entities (good for their business as junkies will orbit around the area more and more). A shame. Quite honestly it sometimes feels like a third world country there, but perhaps the purpose of all this is to concentrate it there so it doesn’t dissemina-te around other neighbourhoods.

  3. it was the case 10 years ago already. then find a single capital where there are no beggars near the train station and let me know.

  4. The answer is yes, although ironically not because there is more begging and shady activity going on, but because the Gare area is being gentrified so now all of a sudden it is an “issue”. Noone gave a shit 10 years ago, because there were no fancy cocktail bars or pizza places or expensive apartment buildings then.

  5. Why doesn’t the government use the vast amounts of wealth it has to take care of it’s poorest habitants?

Idk, seems like paying a little more tax would be worth not having those issues.
