Can someone explain this in easy terms? Why would people buy government bonds at negative interest rates?
I get that they are very stable but wouldn‘t it still make more sense to just keep the money in Euro rather than invest it at all?
I’ve never understood it, but it’s been going on for at least the past 5 years. People actually pay for the ‘privilege’ of loaning money to the government. It would be just like if your bank charged you to deposit money in your account.
