Hun verlies. Ik heb te lang mijn frans verwaarloosd. Ben dit terug aan het studeren. Het is heerlijk om een extra taal machtig te zijn. Zoveel extra vormen van media/entertainment dat plots beschikbaar komen.
Je krijgt een hele nieuwe waardering voor alles wat met de franse taal te maken heeft + je bent ook wel trots op jezelf als je merkt dat je vooruitgang maakt in de taal.
Goed engels, relatief goed frans en een mondje duits kunnen je nochtans een enorme boost in je carrière geven.
In het secundair leeft volgens mij ook meer het gevoel dat Frans niet echt nodig is op de werkvloer. Daarnaast zijn er heel veel hogere studies die ook geen Frans meer hebben in hun curriculum. De nadruk wordt telkens op het Engels gezet, waardoor deze bij veel mensen zeer goed is.
Zelf ben ik tweetalig opgevoed en merk ik wel de voordelen van Frans goed te kunnen in het bedrijfsleven. Mijn vriendin gebruikt dagelijks Frans als dokter en ikzelf voer al de gesprekken met Waalse of Franse klanten in het Frans. Het lijkt mij ook een van de sterkste troeven van een Belg om zich aan te passen naar de moedertaal van iemand anders.

For me, my French is at best at a basic level, while English feels so familiar, half of the time, I’m thinking in English.
Yet in secondary education I had at least twice as much French.
If only they could increase effectiveness of language lessons.

nog minder? 30 jaar geleden waren we ook al niet gemotiveerd? waren vlamingen ooit gemoviteerd om FR te leren?
enige motivaties hebben niks te maken met FR
• voor uw werk
• ge komt een lief tegen die FR spreekt
als ge werkt met mensen in taal X, dan gade gemoviteerd zijn om X te leren. Als ge een lief hebt die Y spreekt…
aangezien zowa meeste media in EN is, zijde van kleins gemotiveerd om EN te verstaan.
in wallonie & frankrijk dubben ze alles, dus zero motivatie om dan ook maar ooit moeite te doen om een andere taal te leren.
feit dat ze geen dubbing doen van meeste media content in Vlaanderen is a blessing (not even in disguise )

focussing on details in stead of conversation, focussing on theory in stead of practice.
I failed french in school, year after year after year untill sixth grade.
then I went to highschool and didn’t use it at all for two years
but then I got a sidejob where I just had to talk french and a year later I was fluent to the point where non french speakers would just assume I was frenchspeaking. How? by talking it all the time and by not having to do it perfectly. it’s a lot more usefull to be able to talk than it is to know the congugation of some verb in some never used time.
As someone who graduated secondary school last year (ASO), I’m surprised motivation is 7/10.
I followed maths-sciences (maybe that already explains a lot) and almost everyone was like: “ugh, I hate French, glad I won’t have any more in University.”
I think there is a major link between grades and motivation: the ones with good results didn’t hate is as much as the ones who never had good grades
Despite being relatively good at languages I hated French in high school. I always barely passed my classes and simply could not figure out how to make decent sentences. Sure I could study the words and say what they meant from the top of my head but the moment I had to use them in an actual sentence I’d find myself completely unable to do anything.
The jump from primary to high school was too big for me as well, we went from simple sentences of 6 words to teachers teaching in French and expecting us to be able to follow. Completely messed up any confidence I had back then.
Français >>> English.
Ik krijg er ook echt het schijt van als mensen Engelse woorden of zelfs hele zinsdelen gebruiken als er een perfect Nederlands equivalent voor bestaat. Ik heb het dus niet over woorden zoals “computer” of “internet”, maar constant “by the way” ipv “trouwens” enzo.
“6 or 8 hours of math each week?” – “well, in 8 hour math, you have an hour less french each week.” – “8 hours it is! More math and less french, all the benefits.”

Vlaamse Jongeren minder gemotiveerd om IETS te leren IMHO.
Wij wonen in Limburg. Wij komen nooit ergens waar ze frans spreken. Frans is verplicht op school. Duits was nooit verplicht … Beter om dat optioneel te maken. Dan ben ik eens benieuwd hoeveel kinderen in Limburg nog frans zullen volgen 😉
Mijn neefje krijgt nu frans op school, ik zie dat het hem helemaal niet kan boeien.
I was raised bilingually up until I went to primary school in Dutch and it took over.
My knowledge of French barely improved in those 8 years, and I had a head start. The way French is taught obviously isn’t working, and same for English. I learned English before high school, and it barely improved since then.
In west Vlaanderen is het wel interessant om Frans te kunnen. Ik kan het niet goed en mijn Engels is veel beter maar op de werkvloer is het soms wel jammer als ik iets met handen en voeten aan mijn Franse klanten moet uitleggen omdat ik op bepaalde woorden niet kan komen.
