In September I plan on crossing Femundsmarka national park from Elgå to Røros, route is depicted [here](https://en.mapy.cz/s/nutarukesa). Since I am not familiar with local conditions – could anybody give me a hint on how many days it might take? Also, would you recommend any park highlights that should not be missed? I am in my thirties with good physique. Many thanks!

  1. The Norwegian webpage ut.no usually gives good advice. I assume it is Norwegian only.

A search [indicates](https://ut.no/turforslag/118110/langtur-i-femundsmarka-fra-elga-til-rros) it as a demanding trip. It suggests 5 days.

There are plenty of self-service-cabins on the route. It also provides information regarding the different protected areas.

The easiest way to pay at the cabins is to download the app “hyttebetaling”.

If google can translate the webpage ut.no in a sensible way it should be very accesible information.

At the moment it is still a risk of snow. The night temperature is still sub-zero during the night.

    Good luck.

  2. I feel like it’s generally helpful to assume you’re going to be able to do about 3 km an hour in relatively flat terrain and on trails, maybe a little less with a backpack for a multi-day hike. So with about 5 hours of hiking a day as an example, expect to use 6 days or so.

For highlights I would recommend hiking down or up Røavassdraget, the river on the border between Innlandet and Trøndelag. It has some really beautiful rock formations along the bank. Otherwise you may want to head up to some of the summits for the views.

Also, September is a great time for hiking Femundsmarka. I was there in late August last year and loved it. I didn’t hike outside of the national park, so I can’t speak for what hiking there is like.
