Went walking around in a modern part of Brussels last night, this city can be beautiful in some spots

  1. That’s the boulevard industriel right?

Of course, beautiful is relative. To me this looks like an overdeveloped zeekust town, all built with fresh money to rich Flemish developers’ taste, but utterly soulless. Must be practical to live above a supermarket and a pharmacy and have the school literally next door… but ultimately this is an apartment in the ‘middle of nowhere’ (for Brussels) and next to a large, high traffic road.

  2. Brussels sure is beautiful in quite a few spots, but uh, I wouldn’t exactly call the neighbourhood with the 2020’s copy/paste architecture the best example of that.

  3. There is some nice penthouses there with some impressive windows but I prefer to spend time on the peniche on the canal. That is still a piece of the real Anderlecht.

  4. Doesn’t really do it for me. I work near Tour & Taxis and I like how that place is now. The park, the authentic T&T building, the appartments, the events etc.

  5. Of all the historic, art-nouveau, art deco and neoclassical buildings in Brussels you pick the most generic, bland contemporary architecture there is. I guess it’s inoffensive.

  6. You can find these developments anywhere in the country. They are very efficient in space and relatively cheap to build but have this very bland ,soulless look to it. I personally don’t like how they look but they do allow for some high quality housing.

  7. This specific style of nieuwbouw appartemensblokken is popping up pretty much everywhere these days. Don’t see what’s special about it.
