My partner was walking the dog this morning and the dog was licking this pink stuff off of a freshly cut tree. Is this some kind of pesticide? Or is the tree oozing it? I’ll also post this to some kind of tree group. Thanks I’m advance.

  1. That is birch sap. If you cut a birch this time of year, the stumps gets covered in all the sap that was supposed to go up the tree

  2. That is just sugar water and some wild mold or something. Nothing dangerous, your dog has eaten much worse without you even recognicing. For example, dogs like to snack rabbit poop and stuff like that without owner even noticing. Thats the reason I dont give kisses to dogs…

  3. That’s basically just sugar water coming out of the tree. Some people drink it. The dog’s fine.

  4. That looks like a birch tree stump, and the stuff is probably sap. The sap can cointain a little xylitol, so if your dog is small and had a lot of it, you might want to keep an eye out for xylitol poisoning.

  5. When you said you were gonna post this to a tree group, i was really looking forward to seeing this on r/trees tomorrow. But gladly you got your answer and your dog is safe
