From where does he think his opulent lifestyle in the Aras comes from?
As usual the actual speech is more nuanced than the title suggests typical pat leahy shite looking for a bit of drama between higgins and the goverment
“That narrow focus constitutes an empty economics which has lost touch with everything meaningful, a social science which no longer is connected, or even attempts to be connected, with the social issues and objectives for which it was developed over centuries. It is incapable of offering solutions to glaring inadequacies of provision as to public needs, devoid of vision.”
I enjoyed this part of his speech
Well it’s not like he can do anything about … speech was basically a medley of some comments you see daily around this thread, nothing new really. He’s speech certainly won’t start a revolution.
Earl Hickey: number 285 on my list, told the Irish president “you are a voice”
Unfortunately Randy took the lead on this one and brought Joy and Catalina on a road trip. He thought life was gonna be better when he found a leprechaun, but it was a passive aggressive chupacabra called Iris and she wasn’t a dog.
Randy: I petted the Dog and called her a dog “my name is randy”
Randy: I love my dog, my brother is always pissing her off, she’s a super duper amazing dog that was born male, fly away Baby, fly away baby Bert!
Earl:: fly away you stupid cunt.
Earl: my brother fell in love with a rock. But he wants to ride my ex and the bitch that does easy shit…..
As usual, Higgins his the nail on the fucking head.
Having the highest GDP ever while having the highest homelessness figures ever means priorities are not correct.
Landlord with 6 figure salary chastises people for being too worried about money
I like Higgins. He’s a right little lad.
This is a wise auld man and he’s ours.
Please listen to him.
we need to develop FTL travel. then can have massive growth until the galaxy is as full as Mumbai
He’s right. I literally don’t care if we have the highest GDP in the world. If you’re waiting years to receive basic healthcare, can’t get from A to B on public transport, can’t buy a house until you’re in your 30’s, have to constantly work and save nothing, etc. what is the point?
Americans love to boast about their high salaries and GDP but when you live in an empty society with no social cohesion, what is the point of it all?
Use the rural land. Take a look at tipperary and how vast the land is. Make a few jobs and grow the economy
Please tell me there’s a video.
This seems as important a speech for Irish politics to me as Eisenhower’s military industrial complex speech is for Americans.
Edit: confused about the downvotes but would love to be informed why they’re there.
>Mr Higgins also set out clear political challenges. “Do we want to bequeath to our children an Ireland where everybody will have access to nutritious food, clean water, adequate housing, good healthcare, childcare and education, irrespective of their ability to pay for those basic social goods? Or do we wish to pursue a means-tested, two- or even three-tiered system of access to services with all its exclusionary and inequitable outcomes?”
In broad terms, we already have all of that. Outside of housing, what more can be done?
Goblin smoked salmon muncher
He’s on the money.
Social differences in Ireland are growing by the day. Ireland has one of the highest rates of homelessness despite being a very small country. Not to mention the huge drug issue Ireland’s facing.
People can’t afford to buy or rent houses because the systems encourages economic aggressiveness and savagery, and it’s completely hostage of large funds and corporations.
Money can’t solve everything nor is the solution to everything.
You need growth in the economy to pay for growth in public spending
